While my first choice is to buy stuff made in America I often find I am buying a lot of my toys (quadcopters, hexcopters, contrillers, and various electrical components) from China.

So late last night I ordered a Sanwu 7w big boy laser with a G7, beam expander, adapter, and light saber. Got up this morning and there were two emails and two phone calls from my CC company about possible fraud. It was easy enough to call them and use the automated system to confirm the purchase was legit.

I have to say this is not the first time this has happened when ordering products from outside the US. On the other hand it has only happened once in the US. When there was a big CC breach some one got my CC info and bought lots of flooring supplies in Colorado and tried to pay for it and the installation. Since I am on a boat down island I was happy to see the CC fraud dept doing a good job.

Kinda wonder if others have had the same issue buying lasers from China; and perhaps more to the point are there any US based laser companies. From what I have seen Sanwu and JetLaser are first tier companies with good street cred so I am happy to do business with them.

I also have seen threads here about buying from individuals at LPF. For someone like me just getting started with what I call hobby class (as opposed to cheaper consumer class) lasers there seems to be a fairly steep learning curve.

Yes, you can't go wrong with JetLasers and Sanwu. They are credible and quality based companies. Also they've had ties with this forum for many years.
Not too sure why the transaction was labelled as fraud, but at least you know you're protected.
Enjoy your laser when it arrives. But stay safe as 7W is seriously dangerous.

I often use PayPal when buying from China. That keeps my credit card information out of the hands of the Chinese and gives me some added protection when buying there. I use it exclusively on eBay as most sellers there insist on it.

I use paypal a lot as well, but could not find that option at Sanwu or JetLaser. Gotta say it looks like lasers are like potato chips, you can't stop at just one.

I've been collecting since 1980. I have as many unfinished projects as I do lasers. That is quite a lot as I only have a few of my lasers in my signature. Once I get all my laser projects done I'll have twice as many as I do now.

It was flagged because of the $$$ amount to a foreign company. It can happen with a domestic company if a $$$ expenditure is out of the normal spending habits.

Yes, as Curtis stated, you won't go wrong with either Jetlasers, or Sanwu, both have great products and super customer support. :yh:
If you are looking at a J/L product, you may want to contact Hackzaw1, he's a veteren member here, and also our resident Jetlasers expert and contact; he often has a stock of some new J/L lasers, and best of all, he's located in Texas.

Be sure to have proper eye protection for your new 7W monster!

I've only had my CC transaction help once. It was
because it was a big ticket item and didn't fall into
the normal range of my purchases.
Good to know the CC company was on the ball to
protect me.

I generally have caps on purchases for all my major CC so that they inform me of a purchase that goes over that cap. I have some CC that pay between 1.5% and 2% cash back and I use them for recurrent purchases or bills so I can take advantage of the rewards programs. By doing this, I get ~$10/month back. It doesn't sound like much, but over the years it adds up.

Welcome ragebot to the forum. You’ll just love your 7 watt monster from Sanwu. As mentioned above grab some eye protection also, with that bad boy your going to need it. Which 7 watt did you get, the Stricker or the Silver? I own the Striker and it live up to it’s name sake, it is striking!! Enjoy and be safe. :)

On your sailboat, bet there’s going to be plenty of open space to throw and beam. But you know beam shots are required. (just kidding) :D

I am getting the Striker. I also ordered the three set Green red violet 304 long range visible laser pointers combo and got a tracking number for it. Am getting three sets of glasses from Survival Lasers. My boat is in a marina now and with all the bad weather (it is almost a historic rain fall season in Florida) I am not going out much. Not sure if you saw my other post about taking my lasers to the rifle range my shooting club owns, but one of the seven ranges there goes out to 300 yards with dirt berms on three sides. Hope to test them there.
