900mW 525nm NUGM03 Build

Hey guys, here is one of my 2020 additions to the collection, a NUGM03. This beautifully made compact host was made by Lifetime17, thanks Rich! The color of the powder-coated heatsink is a close match for the 525nm wavelength. It's powered by a Super X-Driver set at 1.8A running off of 2x 18350 cells.

Set at 1.8A, this one isn't breaking the 1 Watt mark, however at 925mW it still 'appears' to be the brightest of all the builds I own.

Note: All of the beamshots were long exposure shots taken with a GoPro Hero 8, I'm not sure why the beams come out looking 'staggered', but they still come out a bit better than ones I've taken with my phone.

While the camera doesn't pick up the wavelength perfectly, the following pictures of the 925mW - 525nm NUGM03 are alongside a 1.1W - 520nm NDG7475 (pictured below).

Appreciate the pics, how much power output and what is the wavelength of the blue beam next to the green?

Oh, that is his other green which he mentioned is 1.1w 520nm. The camera is just picking it up wrong.

That's right Gianakakis, it is the 520nm. I'll have to try to find a new method of resizing photos. I tried this new app called LitPhoto, and there's just too much quality lost during the resize. Looking back at my originals, they are much much clearer.

Hey! I just finished rebuilding my NUGM03 into a pen with my 3A buck driver, Driver works really well, Have used it on 3 of my builds, and no problems!

I saw that then wondered why he put a photo showing a blue laser :p It appeared close to 465 or so nm to me.

Hey! I just finished rebuilding my NUGM03 into a pen with my 3A buck driver, Driver works really well, Have used it on 3 of my builds, and no problems!

Nice pen, I'd like to have something like that to have for EDC. What do you have the current set at? I wouldn't think that the run time would be too long if it was set high.

I definitely need to experiment a bit more. The white balance could be off or maybe the sensor just can't pick up specific wavelengths. I was trying to shoot 488 the other night and it too was coming out looking like 465ish.

Does the beam still look blue when photographed alone? Maybe silly question.

I'll have to check the other pictures later when I'm done with work, but I don't think it does. So that also could be that one WL is 'drowning out' the other.

To answer your question Alaskan, (for these long exposure shots) the NDG7475 does have somewhat of a blue hue to it when photographed alone, but I think it is definitely the camera.

So almost a week later, we finally had a clear sky last night to re-take some of the pictures. While the GoPro does take some nice pictures, capturing specific wavelengths doesn't seem to be one of the things it's good at. I basically took the same picture over and over again while changing the white balance until I got the blue hue to diminish. Normally I have it set to 3200K to capture a nice blue sky, but for the next 2 pictures it was changed to a warmer 6500K.

In both pictures the NUGM03 is the one that starts on the right and NDG7475 starts on the left. (This pic here, it crosses to the left.)

I did happen to find a couple more NUGM03 pictures that I took a couple months ago when the moon was full and bright.
