8x sled/diode?

I had only seen the one bare CH08 diode that you sent me. I had not seen one in the sled. The pictures on the website linked above are 6X diodes from a GGW. I wondered if the diode in the CH sled was the same. Based on your photos, it is not

Well my package of the BH08 diodes came in. I thought it would be the entire sled but it was only the diodes with the green ribbons on them.... which is a shame because I like taking apart new sleds..

I don't have time to test them today but will try tomorrow.

If they have that "ice cube" looking lens on them, that round heat sink, and/or a piece of the heat sink sticking out that would hold that Ice cube, they are NOT from an LG BH08 sled.

I'll find a picture of one from the BH08

The one marked "blu" is from the GGW (6X) sled. The part sticking out is where that "ice cube" is glued on

The diodes at that link also have the very familiar green "blotch" over the square barcode we see in the 6X. Finally, the square barcode on the 8X and 12X diodes are much smaller than this one on the 6X diodes.

I see. They do have the ice cube optics on them. All my GGWH20L 6x diodes have an orange ribbon on them while these are green. That was why I thought these might be different at first.

I'll assume they're 6x. Tests to come tomorrow.

Yeah. The color of the ribbon is different so they are from something other than our well known GGW-H20L, but everything else about them (physically) says 6X diode. In any event they are NOT from a BH08 sled.

Look for a kink starting around 190mA-210mA

I had work come in the way of testing... I'm off at 5:30am today and have the weekend off but will be busy this weekend as well.

Alright I did some testing today with Larry and these were my results. I used a Rkcstr driver with a 9V battery, the "LG BH08" in an Aixiz module with no lens, in a Dark Horse heat sink.

196mA = 155mW
248mA = 219mW
289mA = 198mW

at this point I moved the current back down to see if it would still put out around 220mW at 250mA.

250mA = 181mW.

so it didn't.

It appears this is a 6x diode, and not 8x.

I gave the other "LG BH08" diode to Larry to do more testing on. Maybe he'll find better results, but I am not confident.

In my opinion the diodes I bought did not come from an LG BH08 drive, but I didn't get the whole sled so I don't know where they came from.

Bad news :( And also it is good news as I didn't buy this diode yet :)

Are these results worse then PHR803? As I know even SF-AW210 diodes give >200 mw with 196mA

No its better than both PHR803t and SF-AW210 in my opinion. It did seem like a decent 6x diode.
 
Enjoyed meeting Kendall at his place tonight.

Got a few lasers and a test module to use in some of my projects.

He is actually a real "POWER BROKER".

He can probably explain his real job better than I can,
but he deals in MEGAWATTS of real and imagined power.

Anyway, I have another one of his bare "green 8X diodes" to test.

I will put it on the test bench as soon as possible.

Just so you know,

he has only three monitors side-by-side at the top of his workbench.

And a great price on the GGW sleds.

Diodes vary in efficiency.

However, more importantly to your question, drlava was using a different lens. The lens drlava was using was specifically anti-reflective coated for 405nm. It lets more light through the lens than a stock lens.

This last bit of info is counter-intuitive, but measuring a diode without a lens can give you lower output readings. The lens "collects" the light from the sides of the beam and focuses it onto he thermopile. Without a lens, some of the light "leaks" off to the side and misses the thermopile.
