Hey guys, can anyone tell me if an 8X DVD-RW is the 8X diode that we all have been looking for ? Thanks, rob

Am I being trolled or something?
How long have you been here? I thought you'd have known this already...
Anyways, CD drives have 780nm infrared diodes, DVD drives have 650nm red diodes, and bluray drives have 405nm violet diodes. Reader drives will have much weaker diodes than burners, and the faster the write speed of the burner (the "X" number), the stronger the laser diode will be. (in general... there are exceptions)
So, a DVD reader will have a very weak diode, probably only capable of 10mW or so.. A 8x DVD burner will have a lower powered red diode, maybe capable of 100mW if you're lucky... A 16x DVD burner will have a more powerful red diode, capable of around 200mW... A 22x DVD burner will have an even more powerful diode, capable of some 300mW...
Seriously you didn't already know this?
@ PSEUDOLOBSTER,Thanks for makin' me feel more like an idiot than I already did, (j/k)
Phonnix,
I know about the memory thing, it gets worse for me every year. Soon I will need your book too. LOL
