I want to here some people opinions on 9mm 1W 808nm laser diodes. Are they as good or better or worse at burning when compared to say a 1W 445nm laser?

They are much more dangerous because the beam and beam
profile are next to invisible...

You will need appropriate Laser Safety Goggles/Glasses which
will reduce visibility even more.

Stick with visible spectrum Laser and a good pair of Laser Safety
Goggles/Glasses.

Thanks for your concern, but in comparison to a visible laser do they burn better?:thanks:

A Watt is a Watt is a Watt.
The only difference would be the characteristics of the material
you want "burn".
Different materials react differently to different wavelengths of
Laser light.

On a Laser Power Meter 1 Watt of 445nm and 1 Watt of 808nm
is the same 1 Watt of Laser power...

Would the 808nm be better at etching white paper than a 445nm? :tinfoil:

445nm is much better burner for that, but you should focus any laser to a tiny spot if you are going to burn something...

EDIT: but 405nm is even better, but you can't have so high powers...

I have a 2W 808nm handheld. It does absolutely nothing to white paper unless the beam strikes a speck of dirt. Stick with 445nm or 405nm if you need to cut/burn white paper. A 6x bluray easily burns white paper.

You have 6 LPM's!, how much would you sell one for?:)

While I will admit that I'm kind of intrigued by 808 lasers, the fact that they're basically invisible radiation is too scary, at least until I get a better workspace and some serious glasses. While a watt is certainly is a watt is a watt, you definitely need to consider what you want to burn and why. I have a few art projects in the work that I'll be burning paper for, and my 2.3W 445 does a very good, very controllable job. Plus, they're the cheapest high-power diodes on the market right now.
