hello,

Recently i bought a focusable 250mW IR laser, but since it was greatly disappointing in writing on my black foam sheet, i decided to buy some 1000mW laser diodes and a collimating lens.

I bid $40 on two lots of 5 1W diodes in a thoughtless impulse, thinking that $5-8each was to good to be true so i made two bids, and now i have too many lasers on my hands, and im out of pocket 80 bucks, so what better place to sell them off than here!

Anyway, i have 5 1000mW DPSS IR Burner diodes 9mm in diameter

They are $14 each ONO, $10 for any extra ones
postage in australia is $2, Out of australia is $3.

which is supposedly very reasonable since normally individual ones cost between $20 and $30 (i paid $32 for my first one), on ebay at least.

Unfocused they burn through black and dark materials fairly well at within a 1cm of the diode. In that range they can heat up your skin hot enough to hurt within about 10 seconds.

Ive been told that they are meant to run continuously with a heatsink, at 2.2V at 1.2-1.3A. Otherwise be careful as they heat up at currents and voltages above what they are rated for.

these things make light in a line, diverging out into a V , so they need a collimating lens $3 for a lens , $7 for a housing with lens on dealextreme or ebay)

Because they are IR, you cant really see them that well, but on camera, they look violet, and are about as bright as a 5mw red laser .
Apparently its possible to further defuse the light and make a laser flash light for camera night vision, but im fairly unsure about that.

Im afraid i dont have any photos i have taken, but heres the ebay listing i got them from .

Heres some photos of the lasers (are a bit blurry since the pictures were enhanced because i couldnt use flash)

the lighter line comming off the dot is smoke, the smoke appeared simultaneously when the dot shon on the plastic.

Oh sorry,
Ill put up some pics soon.
Do i need pics of the lasers in use?

Those are Huurersciences diodes - just so that everyone is aware.

I wouldn't necessarily count on them being usable for DPSS. Their wavelengths likely have a high +/-.

well pictures are there.
My camera though picks up the IR as violet-blue, although i expect most people already know this, but to your eyes these appear to be red.

Too bad they aren't in C-mount package. I am looking for a few C-mount IR diodes.

If your focusable 250mW IR laser is enough to pop the balloon and you want to sell it. Please let me know. I'll take it off your hand. I am looking for a small IR laser module for an experiment
Thanks

Do you happen to have a proper set of glasses for your IR lasers? Normally I would not jump into a thread and ask this but since these are IR lasers and are VERY dangerous if handled improperly I would like to know.

You could of had a very nice green laser or blue laser that could easilly pop balloons or write on styrofoam for the money you already spend too. Just thought you should know.

Thank you Jeffreythe00 for your concern. I do appreciate it. Yes I do have a pair of goggle for IR. This is what I have Amazon.com: 808nm Infrared Laser Eyes Protection Glasses/Goggle: Everything Else

I am not looking for a laser pointer. My intention is to use it in a controlled environment which the laser aims directly to a box within 3 feet and it will be on then off immediately. I know how dangerous it is if it's not handle properly.

Sure, im willing to sell the focused laser.

Ill let you know at what distance it can pop balloons as soon as i find out.

Also, i am happy now that i did buy all those diodes, because now, after auctioning off, just one, ive already made back almost half the money i spent on the entire lot!

Awaiting for your reply. I need to know how fast and how far it can pop the balloon and most importantly how much do you want to sell it including shipping to California.
Thanks

sorry, i cant get a hold of balloons. free hand, being careful with the focus, i could get 2m at the most. maybe more with an extra lense and something to hold it like a stand.

are they still good for non DPSS laser? regular 808nm handheld? with module and focus adapter?

thanks

yes, they would work like any other IR laser module in a housing.
with the proper collimation and a bit of effort, you can get an almost perfect burning dot with these.

Too bad they aren't in C-mount package. I am looking for a few C-mount IR diodes.

I can get a 1W 808nm C-mount one for you $30-40, but it would be just the diode and nothing more.

I am soon changing over to blue modules, since i cant get a hold of any more to-5 ones for the same prices, at least not until the wholesaler restocks, and it seems their value nearly doubles when you add a regulator and housing.

Btw, i have sold all my diodes. I will have more later, perhaps after july.
