561nm project box laser(Done)

Re: Got my 561nm module

Have you tried advanced or ultimate lithiums? Advanced will have a bit higher starting voltage and ultimate will be higher than that.

Don't know if I wanna risk those with this. If I end up building it into a project box I might at least end up using a AA holder rather than AAA's. Then I'll get some NiMH AA's to run it with.

Re: Got my 561nm module

To my eyes it actually looks decently yellow. It's not a golden yellow like 589 though. It's like a yellow which is closer to green.

The name of the color is (a shade of) chartreuse, (but closer to yellow than green in color) and 532nm is also chartreuse, (but closer to green than yellow).

Re: Got my 561nm module

Don't those top out at 3.6V? Similar to how 3.7V cells top out at 4.2V?

IDK i doubt it because then they would not be a replacement for the cr2.

They're usually LiFePO4, they charge to 3.6V but out of the charger drop to 3.3-3.4V. They're safe for most 2xAA applications, since good AA's start at 1.7V. Of course I can't guarantee they're good for your module, but they work fine for ebay pens.

Re: Got my 561nm module

Just saw this and first, congratulations. I would never put any adhesive on it as the benefits are not as much as the problems you will have trying to get it apart in the future if you ever need to. I would heat sink the output device, though. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Well, the good news is I can always unscrew this assembly from the hacked off RPL head I have it in. Short of somebody machining a totally custom host for me to screw it into, I'm not sure how I'll ever make a true pointer out of this though. I've thought about trying to do something with maglights maybe. It would need to be a 3 cell maglight for the module to have room. THen I'd need to remove the maglight springboard and add a new one further back.

Why not just find someone who has a GLP host. I'm sure there is one around somewhere.

Re: Got my 561nm module

nice. they're a 3V module, but they can handle up to something like 5-6V IIRC, but they get hot. and no it doesn't boost the power notably. its stressful on it to run it higher than 3V battery based. If you have a very rock steady, low noise 3V supply you could mount it in a block and TEC cool it and make yourself a kind of semi crude lab laser with some electronics skills.

Re: Got my 561nm module

You want a pair of NiMH cells for this. LDO drivers operate with the lowest heat generation and the highest efficiency with the lowest voltage possible while still remaining in regulation, and this appears to be a hair above 2.2V, which makes the 2.4V of NiMH ideal.

They're usually LiFePO4

Are you saying CR2s are usually LiFePO4? If so, I'm gonna need a source.

Re: Got my 561nm module

Dangit, I'd ordered some lifepo4 16340's and a battery holder to use with this. Now what am I gonna do with em?

I guess I'll try to get some NiMH AA's and a holder.

Re: Got my 561nm module

Just save the cells. I have all kinds of batteries and have found uses for all of them. I seriously doubt as mentioned that a couple of ultimate lithiums are any issue to run with this module. 8 would hope they at least would give you a longer run time. That being said it sounds to me like Cyp as usual knows what he is talking about and would not steer you wrong.
