505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

Nope. There are two versions of the 505nm diode, likely the one in the op was a pre-production diode.

The 473 and 573 numbered 505nm diodes are the case neutral ones, and the 147 ones are case positive as paul says. I'll ask lazerman to add that to the op.
 
I just finished testing five of these for Dr.Laser 9SB1573N91). They are case positive with a photo diode included in the package. The other two iterations of the Sharp 505nm have case neutral pins, but not this one. Confusing, isn't it?!

Ok I'll pull up the data sheet here in a sec. The pinout though. Is it positive on top, ground on the bottom as per the op or is it the opposite.

I'm on my phone here.

Sorry. I had just logged onto my laptop and with there being three versions of this diode it is difficult to keep them all straight in my mind. The SB1473N91 and the SB147EC91 are both case neutral, but the SB1473N91 is the one that is spec'd below 505nm and the other case neutral one is closer to 510nm. It is the SB1573N91 that is case positive and also includes the photo diode in the case. It spec'd at 502nm to 503nm. Too many diodes all from the same manufacturer that are all different from one another in some way.

Oh crap. Just when I thought i had the pins right between the three. Other Zach knows what diodes are which and will update the OP with the right pinouts a bit later so nobody else has to deal with it.

I'm glad testing it case + first didn't blow the diode...

Very low current. About 40 mA because it wasn't heat sinked.

Yeah, Zach. I had the same problem with this diode too. Even if you hook it up wrong it will survive. The case neutral ones don't care if you hook it up to the case and the other one has a photo diode, reverse biased, in series with the LD if you hook it up wrong.

Ha... this is kinda entertaining actually. I think we need a simple diagram for pinouts and suggested current for all these numbers we got... but in the op post.
 
I agree, but that is up to lazerman121. There are three iterations of the Sharp 505nm diode and it gets confusing after awhile.
 
So the official model number for the 505 is either SB1473N91 or SB147EC91? What is the model of the 473?

I'm trying to put together some pages for the wiki.

Or it could be SB1573N91 too. There are three of them and only two are below 505nm while one is close to 510nm. It is a mess. The pin out of the SB15s are case positive while the others are case neutral.
