hi there,

iam looking for a decent 473nm. i found the following on CNI:

1) PGL-H-473 laser module 1-50mW
2) portable laser PGL-III-A-473 5-50mW

now my questions are:

a]
does cni still ship to private individuals? i mailed for prices, but maybe sb knows already what to expect here approx.?

b]
lets assume the lasermodule is the cheapest way to own a 473:
if its shipped with the 3VPCB board, does it mean i only need e.g. 2xAAA
or 2xAA and its ready to go?

the pdf states: (TTL modulation: Optional, 1Hz-1KHz, 1KHz-10KHz, or higher on request)

what does that mean for me as a buyer?

Yeah they do, but you'll need to do a bank transfer

There's also a GB (group buy) on the forum that might still take you in. (prices will be lower)

The PGL-H alone will be cheaper, however not by much. We power them by 1x 18650 battery, and put them into our own hosts. Letting them run without extra heatsinking will potentially lead to problems... which will ultimately cost more than buying the complete handheld from them.

Three examples of using the PGL-H module (built by a competing company, nearly identical specs) into a custom build are found on the forums, one by me & jayrob "Vintage Light", one by wannaburnstuff "Frost" (which is for sale right now), and the third by jayrob here..

Typically you'd be expecting $550~750 for using the PGL-H in a custom host...

...it is all nice craftsmanship, but it keeps the price high. it is not what iam aiming for.
maybe i missed it but i cannot find the laser module bulk price in these custom-built threads.

so please tell how much and where to obtain? i only see lab laser @lasever.com

I can tell you that this cost me <$600 :D

And he has it right; 473's are great quality and dirt cheap there :)

^You never heard about lasever.com?

The big question I don't see answered was after all was said and done what did this build cost?

Buying just a 5mw 473nm from almost any online retailer is about $600!

Simple , yes CNI sell to individuals , you will have to email them to get a quote for the laser you require and shipping / insurance ect

As for the 3VPCB , it means the module driver will require a 3 volt source , however you obtain this is up to you , either a DC bech supply or batteries capable of supplying the current required ( as long as its 3 Volts smooth DC )

The TTL I think you will find is only available on the 5VPCB , it means the laser driver can be power when the laser is in use but a 5 Volt signal is required to enable / turn the laser on . 5V = on , 0V = off , its a form of modulation with the KHz been the speed range the drive is able to handle .

Well lasever's reputation recently went down, which is why I didn't up and say go with them. I think it was only a $30 difference in pricing.

What I meant by the last post is, it'll ultimately cost more if you go with the PGL-H instead of the PGL-III-C.

As for TTL, yes its only for the 5VPCB.

...here is the reply from CNI

PGL-H-473-50mW USD580.00/pc
PGL-III-A-473
30mW USD450.00/pc
40mW USD480.00/pc
50mW USD500.00/pc

Shipping cost to Germany is USD80.00
CNI will have holiday for Spring Festival from 28th,Jan to 10th,Feb,2014

i love lasers but this is just to much, perhaps by 2024 we will have 473s and 589s all over the place...

Those prices make wannaburnstuff's 473nm for sale look real good, it does over 100mW

Well this isn't your average 650nm wavelength :p
473nm will be more expensive. Don't expect anything under $400 for 50mW of 473nm(new of course). I think your best bet is *as said by others* check out wannaburnsuff's sale of his 473nm 100mW in the B/S/T section. It's an amazing price for an amazing beast

btw if u are lucky&clever and can get it through the customs here u have to pay about 20% taxes on laser&shipping price.

Buy a 405nm and shine it through a glass or jug full of water = cheap way to see a beam that looks similar to a 473. You can also focus beams and bend them round corners with glasses of water, pretty cool actually.

No? Because it seems to be widely accepted on here and the general internet that there is a similarity in colour between 405 in water and 473. Brucemir did some pics of 405 through water and the beams look very very similar to 473, which he even stated in his post.

Edit: some links, so you don't think I'm talking bull.

(Scroll down to Brucemir pictures)

It seems to work better in tonic water but also fairly well in normal water. I actually have some photos on my phone of me shining 405 through water but have not yet uploaded them.
