i am building some bluray lasers, ive got 2*phr-803t   3* dt0811 and 1*lg ggwh20l.
Ive got some axis metal holders and lenses, and various ideas for powering them, but ive not dared extract the  ggw-h20l diode until i can be sure about powering and cooling it.
Ive got the tec coolers from a few of those mini fridges, so ive some bits to play with.
for powering i am trying lm317 circuits, but off a 9v battery they dont seem powerfull enough to drive much past 100ma, ive got the psu kit from normand defayette of ebay, and ive found a thing called l200c regulator which looks like a lm317 but has 5 pins and can regulate current and voltage, so that might be a simple solution. Ive also ordered a bench psu with voltage and current controls and 2 big vu style meters so i can be sure not to fry any of the delecate diodes. I hope a bench psu is suitable for testing laser diodes...any one out there use one?

extracting these diodes from the glued metal heatsinks is really scary and difficult, I think the phr803t sleds are more tricky then the dt8011 heatsinks, ive just spent half an hour snipping one out of an 803sled, gonna test it after this writing.

I also have a few laser pointers to dismantle, i got one of ebay for 4 pounds and it registers 140mw on my coherent 210 power meter.
Ive bought a couple of 1w ir 808nm diodes, a c-mount and a to3 and another 500mw 808nm diode from snoctony on ebay in china.
The plan is to make some dpss modules, ive got a few green crystal sets and even a 473nm set to build.

Whats the reason for me telling this...
i guess its just to say hi to the community and to let any experts here know ill be hounding them for advice at some point in the future!
Ive had a nice response from sam at sams laser faqs on a couple of questions i had, so if he ever comes here, then thanks for the info!

any tips on removing these precious little diode components from the glued heatsinks they arrive in?
any chance a dvd rom construction factory would sell them before they get used?
or better still, can anyone think of an easy solution for keeping them in the heatsink and mounting the diodes with a collaminating lense.

can anyone show me what the exact parts in these sleds are?
whats the tiny little optics right infront of the diodes, and what  does the little cube do to the beam, does it polarise or just combine the paths of both diodes?

ok , feel free to ask me questions about my adventures in laserland !
ps i can get my phr803 sleds in the uk for about £13 is that a good deal?
whats the going rate for the various diodes?

mark

i never splecheck so ignore any typos!

USE A CURRENT REGULATING DRIVER TO POWER YOUR DIODES!!!!

YES

I'M YELLING IT AT YOU

Peace,
dave

i am!

my nocturnal activities may make me blind but not deaf!

who sells the best and cheapest driver kits?

thanks for those links for driver build icey.
7.25 dollars is very cheap, are those drivers any good?

does anyone know which glass lenses dont have an ar coating, or any that have 405nm tuned coatings?
does the plastic lense from axis have an ar coating ?
can we salvage any optics from the sleds?

plastic aixiz: no coating, best power for blu ray currently
glass aixiz spare: cuts power drastically, its a triple element 650nm coated, dont use it.
No optics can be salvaged IMHO
IgorT is currently working on getting some 405nm coated lenses in the Group Buy section. Just keep a eye on it. Good luck!

Merideth glass gives the best available power output for now. (Waiting on IgorT's lenses)

dave

Of course they are  ;)

If you would feel better, you could buy them from my general public site (remove the lpf from the link), they're $15 or $20 instead, I won't mind ;D

Over half of the lasers I sell have the Rkcstr driver in them. They're great.

Peace,
dave

From the questions you are asking, it is fairly obvious that you have not read nearly as much as you need to - nor searched Sam's Laser FAQ's as deeply as you should have....Sam's has a blown up picture (many of them in fact) showing a total dissection of the BR sleds - most types, too ! I am not being nasty - it sounds like you have a good idea of what you want to do - and maybe even WHAT to do in some parts of it - but you have LOADS of reading to do yet - especially prior to asking the same questions over and over again that have been asked a hundred and thirty seven thousand, four hundred and ninety three times (at least) previously.

lol! You'd better listen to the plant Greg! I once saw a guy in a play who didn't... and well... you don't wanna know  ;)

Gotta take advantage of it when you actually 'get' these obscure references eh?

Actually, I came up with 137503 times, but who's counting.......

And yes, pay attention to the plants that keep asking you by name, to feed them. Good friend of mine lost his left leg because he didn't give the plant what it wanted.

ive looked at the meredith website, it seems their glass and plastic lenses both have ar coatings, but the mounting blocks they sell look really usefull
