So I bought this PHR-805 HD diode OEM 405nm !!! HIGH POWER !! [PHR805] - $16.99 : StoneTek Electronics, Your Laser Parts Store, and hooked it up to this 405nm 100-300mw Laser Diode Driver Reverse Protection - eBay (item 220769098809 end time May-13-11 03:00:46 PDT), and plugged a cr123 battery into it, not to surpass the 3.7v limit, and crap. It puts out a beam that doesn't project further than 3", and it's dim as hell. Help please.

And before you say search the forum, you do it, click on the first page of responses and see how many are just replied to as,"search the forum." It's frustrating.
 





Oh, forgot to mention. Output v was 7.35, and .02a without diode connected, With it connected output was 3.74, .02a.
 
Well, can't tell you too much, but have you tried testing it with a dummy load and adjusting the current with the pot .
 
With that boost driver, will it amp up the light output? Im looking for something similar to a 200ma laser.

Haven't hooked up a dummy load, could you elaborate?
 
Hmm... I know what I want to say, just don't know how to say it. Is there a way, with this diode, to make a laser that has burning capabilities, and is visible in day light?
 
NO!!! A PHR will never be bright enough to see in daylight. You will need a 100mW+ Green module or a multi-watt 445 to be visible in the day time. Even a 405nm at 700mW probably won't be visible in a brightly lit room.
 
Did you make sure to set the driver to the correct currant.?:thinking: I dint see you say that.?

Do you have a testload to set your driver to the correct currant.

Not every diode has the same currant. Who knows what the driver came to you set at. You could have either Killed your diode because the driver was set to higher then the PHR needed or if you are lucky the currant was lower then you needed and that is why its dim and the driver just need to be turned up.

However you need a testload to do this. DO you have one.?

You can see a PHR beam during the day but only with fog in the air.:)

No, I do not have a testload. What would be the correct current for a phr-805, and how would I adjust the driver I have?
 
That's your problem. You need a test load/dummy load to test the current going to the LD before you hook it up to the actual laser diode.

Use 6 1N4001 diodes in series with a 1 ohm resistor in series with the other diodes and use a multimeter between the resistor to test the current.

You adjust the current by turning the pot on the driver you bought.
 
Thats your Problem.

Hopeful you dint blow your diode and we can set your laser up. However you will need a testload.

A testload is used in place of the diode to set the driver at the correct currant for your laser diode.

You will need 6x 1NXXX Diodes and 1x 1ohm resistor.
