For those of you that think I'm only cruel to blu-ray diodes, I present my latest cruel act [smiley=evil.gif]

You've seen the build before. It is the MXDL 5W Super Bright. It has a Jayrob heat sink. I used drlava's flexdrive. It is powered by a single protected 17670. I had to "open" the battery tube in the host a bit to make room for the protection circuit. The diode is a long open can diode harvested from an LG 22X burner. The diode is housed in a Merideth module with a glass lens.

You've seen this before

As I stated last week, I intended on "pushing" this diode. The worst that would happen is I would have to replace the diode so I figured, "Why not?"

I set the flexdrive at 480mA. You probably have NOT seen this before.

The output varies between 328 and 335. The battery is not "fully charged", but it is still in regulation. I'll get it charged up this evening

There ya have it. dave hurts a red diode this time. It's too bad I don't care about burning things.

I hear 'The Architect' asking 'The Oracle', "How long do you think this can last?" And then I hear 'The Oracle' answer, "As long as it can. . . ."

Peace,
dave

Reminds me of the 320mW I first got from jayrob.... but that one blew, so I had it toned down to 290mW.

Hope your diode lasts a little longer :)

Imma put it in the case with my 180mW blu-ray. They should be very happy together :-*

I'll burn it several times a day for the next few days, then I'll only run it when I take the blu-ray out. It's bright 8-)

Peace,
dave

ZOMG BEAMSHOTS PLZ!!!!!

Err, I mean, do you have any pictures of the beam? I'd really like to see that!

Ask and ye shall receive

Here it is with the 250mW next to it. They don't look much different from straight on Although you can tell that the Merideth was focused better (thinner beam).

I moved off to the side. Now the difference is evident.

330mW vs. 250mW

those open cans hate me. I've not once ruined a diode in the extraction process before these, and now I'm 0/2 with them. With the first one I twisted a pin and ripped it off the die. The second I really have no idea. I tested it, it worked, I got it out of the heat sink and into an aixiz nice and safely and it was dead. I'm 4/4 on 6x diode extractions, and yet I cant do a simple red ;D

I think that some diodes are just agoraphobic.

When you take them out of their little protective box, they get so frightened that they just just die.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I couldn't be doing anything to kill them, could I?

No.

Of course not.

It's the diodes

They can't take being in an open space

They are weak

I'm just fine

Perfectly fine

No really . . . .

I'm fine

I have to go take my med's now

Peace,
dave

Amazing :P !

what are the power of the blue ray in right ?
And can u take beamshot of different power of blue ray ?
:D

My open can red in a Dorcy Jr. with a flexdrive set at 480mA has been running nicely for well over a month now. It has gone through two e2 lithiums and two charges on my protected ultrafire 3.6v RCR123 ;D I would guess 150 or so on-off cycles, 3 hours or so runtime.

I use a no-longer then 1 min or so on/off duty cycle. The heatsink is made by Jake21, where I originally got the dorcy with it's original driver and a 16x diode. The heatsink works quite well, as I found out the one and only time I left it on for 10 minutes(got distracted). The whole end of the Dorcy was hot to the touch, and the laser survived just fine with no apparent damage.

All of the original circuits from the dorcy are gone, as not to interfere with the performance of the flexdrive.

If only it were in a Meredith.. Mine is in an Aixiz/glass lens setup.

Yours should last a good deal of time:)

How well is this laser doing? I only ask since mine is set at the same mA:)

It's doing fine. It survived it's "hell week" (10 burns a day @ 1-2 minute burns). It is in the case with the 190mA blu-ray now. I'm still punishing the 200mA blu-ray so my focus has been there at night.

"Fog" in the air -- 11mW to 165mW

Hey, im definitely expecting this baby to die on me. Phaser diode at 400ma.
hasn't died yet though maybe an hours worth of run time on it.

see, your not alone, I torcher them also. [smiley=evil.gif]

hi danguin can you please help me on my thread, because im building red burning laser using LG 22x DVD laser, im using DDL driver what can you suggest a resistor value to have the nearest power output like yours, thanks.

Sorry. You'll have to get someone like IgorT or Rkcstr (there are several others) to help with that. I'm not an expert in the electronic area. I use the drivers built b drlava and Rkcstr in my builds.

This red is set at 480mA, but understand that is "pushing" this a bit. If you want your laser to last, I would recommend you set your laser to around 420mA. If you want to take a chance, more power to you, but be ready to replace your diode earlier than you would have otherwise.

Peace,
dave
