300mW 'true' on Ebay






Notice they say they use an optical meter. Even a little amount of IR leakage will cause the reading to jump extremely high when reading green, so even if the lasers are putting out 50mW of green and 50mW of IR, the reading on the meter could easily be above 300mW. Those spymode lasers are not IR filtered unlike what the seller says.
 
Well hi guys i`m wondering how good and authentic the Nova x175 is ,because the masssive Laserglow Aries only goes up to 225 and the Nova x looks identical to the ebay lasers.Does anyone know in depth as to the internal parts used and the quality of those and what brand name they are.No other company either than Laserglow actually give the brand name and power of the diodes inside how come we pay all that money to Wicked Nova etc and we have no idea whats inside it.Basically it is like buying a car and not knowing what engine specs it has and i think companies should change their approach when marketing these products.No way can the cycle on any pen above 125mw can be less than 30-50sec on and 10-15 off.I have used dozens of lasers from Laserglow,Wicked,Ebay,Lucent and Techlasers Crossfire which i sent to Laserglow to be tested.Let me tell you a pen sized laser of 150-200mw can not possibly sustain it more than 60-90seconds.
The Crossfire 375 for example with a big heat sink maintained 400mw for only 3 minutes if that dropping to 120-150 after 4 minutes.Therefore the cycle is not 100% for the Crossfires for exapmle so everybody is liying just to sell their products and unfortunately that is the nature of this business like most businesses.I thought about publishing the results here but that would not be unethical. I think at the same time we can`t let these companies ripp people off for a technology that is not only falsely advertised but sold at a redicilously high mark up price.Since we know how cheap it is to produce these lasers no matter how elegant they look or tried to be presented by laser etching,fancy stickers what not.I would understand if Brand names like Osram,nlight,Siemens etc were used which would justify the prices a little bit,but either than that these companies are literally stealing taking the piss or the mick out of innocent,naive buyers on the web and everywhere else and that is the fact of the matter so as a community lets be aware of this and promote a better understanding of the technology and insight.Be it Nova,Wicked or who ever ,you can`t expect to sell a 175mw laser for the price of a luxury cell phone when the cost of thechnology and craftsmanship envolved is just not there.A 150mw pen laser 2-3 years ago is almost still the same price as it is now ,come on now lets wake up people.

they also state nothing about having the unit tested with or without the IR filter too.... gotta becareful of that.

Not to mention that they could just be getting the test from it's peak value.. not the average.

PS. I and many of my friends have fallen into the cheap greenie that will pop balloons.
Listen to these guys... a lot of em have WAAAYYYYY more experience with lasers than anyone else I know out there.
 
funkyman from what i could be bothered reading your post without my eyes hurting, Nova are the best, their power outputs are legit and they 99% of the time average higher than stated, ie 175mw will average 176+, generally above 180
 
I`m not disputing so much the output but rather how long that output is maintained and inner components lifespan and price value ,now my crossfire 375 maxed out at 520 and held 400 for 2 minutes.Additionally CNI makes lasers according to specs to demanded and available budget therefore its like having a kit car where by the shell or the body is the same but the engine varies,A bit like chevy engines on a cobra.Also the retail price is certainly high.Either than that i`m sure for 500usd it will do what its supposed to do.

This is my first post and I hope it is one that may help many of you considering this laser to PASS-ON-IT! Though I am new to LPF, I have bought and sold on eBay for almost a decade and have over 1600 100% positive feedbacks for buying and selling items from $10 to many thousands. My brother had a friend purchase the 300mw green laser from the UK through me. He was not sure it was working well, so I let him visually compare it to one in my lab. Neither of us was impressed. I then contacted a very respected member, Jayrob whom I have had some dealings with. Jay agreed to test this laser and I will list the text of our e-mails below for all members to read.

Hi Grant, the green pointer came today. I did some initial testing. The switch seems not too good. I had to make sure to press it kind of hard. But after changing batteries, it seemed ok.

The Duracell batteries were not good. (perhaps they were already worn) They gave maybe 50mW's.

The blue D&G batteries that were in the case showed 75mW's and dropped to 65mW's with in 10 seconds. But then would only power up to about 65mW and keep dropping in output power... down to 55mW's with in maybe 30 seconds.

I think it is a battery issue, I am charging some of my eneloop batteries now. I will get back to you shortly....

Just tested it with fresh charged eneloop batteries. Still not too good Grant... Sorry to have to tell you bad news like this. I peaks around 70ish and steadily drops to about 60mW's with in 30 seconds. When I let it cool for a couple of minutes, it will power back up at close to 70mW's and begin dropping again.

I noticed that the dot has a lot of 'wash out' or extra light around it. Which makes it look brighter visually. But the meter doesn't lie. I think it must be IR. Probably doesn't have an IR filter.

Sorry for the bad news Grant. I am going on vacation starting Sunday, so I will drop it off at the Post office tomorrow. (Saturday)[/color][/size]

As you can see from our e-mails, this laser is simply NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. Because I am a member in very good standing with eBay, I have notified eBay security about the misleading and downright fraudulent ad's. Hopefully, they will be pulled shortly. I do hope this helps and please feel free to contact Jayrob if you need to hear it from him. He is aware I am making this post as we wanted to keep members from wasting their time and money.

I've got a handful of DX greenies that are more stable than that laser was. Even a 50mW 'true green' from DX that is steady at 70mW's for $50 bucks!

Just to add... the testing that I did on the laser that Grant sent me was done with a thermal meter. (Coherent PM5200) I should have done some comparison testing with my optical LPM-1, but I didn't even think about how the IR may show up as more power with an optical meter vs a thermal meter.

I bought the 300mW ebayer and I also bought an Aurora 175mW GW from dragonlasers

The Aurora is definetly stronger. But the 300mW does burn matches! I am very happy with it.

The Aurora has brighter beam but not by much.

I tried the skin test and found that the Aurora stings a lot more faster, but the 300mW does sting and in seconds from a distance of less than 12 inches (30cm)

I then did a test on paper with a black spot. The 300mW does create smoke and there is a hole produced. However, the 175mW seems to produce a bigger hole faster and smoke immediately.

What kind of meter is needed to test a laser? Are there inexpensive meters like those $10 volt meters they got? I mean you can spend $300 on a volt meter, but I am only looking for an inexpensive meter for now for testing my green lasers.
 
the cheapest meter that I know of is the LaserBee which is $210. Laser power meters aren't cheap. Although a reputable member of these forums may be willing to test your laser for the cost of shipping.

How do I order one with the member savings?

I like that one with the peak detection. How does that display?
If I point my pointer on it for say 5-10 seconds, will it show 2 numbers, one for peak and the other for current mW rating?
