300 mW SKYlaser Issue

Even if it was an TEC it still should give a higher reading. If i were you i should send a mail to laserbtb or skylaser with the model, serial number etc. to check if it was from them. If so you should be able to work something out.

From your label information it looks like the unit dates back to 13 January 2010 production date?
If that is true no warranty of any kind is valid.

It is not going to fix itself---email the label details to kevin at laserbtb----determine if it is a Skylasers product which it seems to be--get/request a quote on cost to replace of the 300mw 532nm module----then decide if you want to ship it back to SKYlaser/lasersbtb for repair

@EpicHam, Yes, it was measured with an Ophir. It was measured multiple times, using both the average, and peak settings on a fluke dmm.
 
Pictures also go a long way to help us help you BTW. Several of us have lasers from sky and jet so its also quite possible we could tell quickly if it is from either. I have the 300mW Skylaser PL model that yours supposedly is and could look at both and see if it looks the same. Your serial number and model numbers are quite similar to mine but the model number is different enough to suggest its not the same exact production.
 
That host is the same kind as the PL not the HL. What size battery does it run on? If its an 18650 then it is likely a PL and if not, then it wasn't made by skylasers AFAIK. PLs are also considerably more expensive than the HL line for the same output.

PLs use 18650s. It still doesn't mean 100% that its a skylaser but it very likely unless another company is using an identical host. Just contact Kevin at laserbtb.com and he should be able to tell you.

Either way though it sounds like you may have bought a dud laser so you may want to contact whoever you got it from if you haven't had the laser very long.
 
The tailcap looks different then a normal PL 532 laser, also the cutout for the switch is different. Could be an older one though! Here is a pic of recent PL lasers:

Apologies for my tardiness. Busy Lately. It's an 18650 cell. Very generic. I tried putting a sure fire cell in there and it wouldn't power up. I've e-mailed the manufacturer on several occasions, and several people here as well. No response yet. But yes, that picture is certainly like my laser.
 
It may not be a skylaser. As offroad mentioned the key switch cutout is different and your tail cap has grooves that the current design skylaser uses does not. Its possible that the laser is a cheaper knockoff with a similar host. AFAIK skylaser does not make their hosts but rather sources from an external manufacturer that sells the same hosts elsewhere. I have run across identical looking hosts from other sites.
 
Some diode can be Overdriven but i think it is uncommon with SKYlasers. This is unusual but your diode may be on the decline. Was it intended for less powerful batteries? not sure if this could make a difference but it might.
 
All lasers(sometimes with the exception of ultra crap pointers) are driven using constant current drivers which means the diode will only be driven as hard as the driver allows. Meaning the batteries being better than needed would have no effect and is actually advised. Also, I doubt the diode is just giving out. IMO, it is more likely that his crystals are coming out of alignment.

In 532nm DPSS lasers the diode is one of the more stable parts in the design. The crystals are usually the problem.
