powered by 3 AAA, looked pretty cool but I thought I would run it by you guys first.

Only thing was it has this sort of smart switch, 50% power, 100% and auto shutoff after 14 minutes. Seems like that might be pretty easy to disable?

they look cool enough. but the only prob with going with a new host is getting a heat sink. also some lights are a 1 piece which makes disassembley incredibly hard. so be careful

well I guess $20 is worth it to find out, 2 cool flashlights if they turn out to lame cheapo models, you're probably right but hell $20 . . .

I have a neighbor with a lathe and a milling machine, he's currently boring a 11.99 mm hole in my core i7 heatsink . . . :)

Anything with a "smart" feature is usually something microchip controlled. That will be part of the driver... which I would hope you will be removing!

should be a fairly straightforward snip/clip no?

If its all held in by a threaded ring (im 90% sure it is) you will be fine. After that you can use copper pipe ends or buy a 1" heat sink for it.

The 3 aaa's can be upgraded with a little work to 14450's

I am working on 10 of a similar model.

Drivers must be tiny for this build. That means your going to Dr. Lava or O-like for a blue driver.

for my ez heat sink build post #11, or you can machine some.

well I went ahead and got the $17.79 3 pack Cree lights from Costco and got one apart without too much trouble, basically 3 aluminum housing parts . . .

Tailcap switch housing/button assy etc . . . 5 function, 50%, 100%, strobe/flash, momentary and low battery indicator.

P1000265.JPG

The driver, aluminum heatsink, diode mounted on an aluminum pc board, the cap that snaps into place holding the diode to the heatsink and the rest. The cool part is that the reflector housing is about .5 mm smaller than the core i7 copper core so that will be an easy fit . . .

Another thing I just noticed one end of the battery holder is held on with three screws . . .

and under the cover of the tail cap switch . . .

P1000270.JPG

Also used a hacksaw to liberate the copper core from this heatsink, should be able to make 2 sinks for these hosts . . .

Should be good . . .

$30 on Amazon . . .
