<200mW Green keychain laser from FocalPrice.com

I had no issues with this laser. However it does no have a good beam. So anything after 10 feet its bad.

This will basicly cause the laser to not look as bright as it should be.

This laser has been focused for burning within 3 feet Period.! After that the divergence is bad. Worse then a 445nm diode.

Put it this way my 73mW CNI is Brighter then this laser. It keeps a tight beam witch makes it look solid all the way down.

After 10 feet the beam starts to get so wide that the laser beam becomes faint.

Also The Amount of IR iam not sure of as i took this laser apart and iam using the host for another build i did.:p Iam guessing its Around 30-50mW of IR OR more. Not sure i dont have an IR Filter to test this.

However the module still works. The laser gets way to hot to fast for my liking. I would only run this laser for less then 30 sec MAX. Anything after that was pretty hot. SO i probably going to put it in a larger heatsink and try to use better optics.

For the Money its OK for burning withing 3 feet.

But i would not buy this if you want a solid pointer.

@Solder Blob Why spend so much money on all these lasers.?:thinking: You could have bought 1 really Bad A$$ CNI or O-likes 400mW Green.?

Just my .02 cents.

Lazeerer, you are quite knowledgable with budget lasers. I do not really care about burning at all, I want the best divergence possible for astronomy applications. Can you point me to a tighter divergence laser with around the same price/power? I will look around the forum as well. Much appreciated :-)

ps I like the youtube videos. Did you receive your new power meter that reads in mW yet?

Hey, For that Price range its going to be tuff. Actually pretty impossible for the money.

For astronomy you really dont want anything too bright as it will effect the view.

Going with a Real 50mW laser will be best.

Not sure about recommending anything asif i have not used it i dont want to lead you in the wrong direction. Its not like a 445nm or 405nm laser witch most use the same optics and can expect to be around the same divergence. Cheap green laser you never know what you are going to get.

Yes i did get my new 5W meter up and running.:)

O-like, Rayfoss, or gadgettown. The last only because they ship from a warehouse in Brooklyn, NY, so customs isn't really an issue. Same lasers as on other cheapo laser websites, but a little bit more expensive. I've had lasers delivered from them in 2 days though, so that's a plus.

@lazeerer,

I went to those sites before, but they seem to be labby specific and too technical for me. I like my lasers like I like my women---small and not too brutal! I buy the cheapie greens to give out to some of my friends. If I can find a small green 20mW to 30mW that takes a single 3.6 or 3.7v lithium battery, I'm gonna buy at least 10, but most I've found take 2 AAA's which makes them too long to fit in your pocket. Sure the FocalPrice keychain 200mW (140mW in English) is nice, but too expensive to give away. I only want to spend about $10 to $12 a piece.

@ped

Man, that's too bad! What happened? Did you put the batteries in the wrong way. I did that once and it fried the coating off half my battery in an instant, but it didn't kill the laser. It did kill the battery down to holding only a very short charge. I think most China pointers are protected against reverse voltage. It seems all the china toys are case positive. Do you have any idea what happened to them? What about too long of a duty cycle? I've never had any laser just up and die unless I gave it too much mA.

Hello Solder Blob, is it possible to explain, how it has put the lens aixiz? Has it screwed on her? Or fixing? Where has lens found aixiz so small for this device? Can it put some photo?
I would like to improve the divergence of my focalprice 200mw.
Thank you.

Would be very impressive if it ran for 1 hour straight :crackup:

Wonder if anyone tried making small lasers with fans or something to provide active cooling in a handheld.

@Constantino,

Yeah man here are some pix. Sorry I been away. It fit right in. Same thread pattern. The laser works fine. I don't know what them other two guys are laughing about. I guess they think I tried to pot mod it or something. Anyway, here's the real scoop. It works just fine. I've been burning both since I got them a few months ago. In fact, I recently ordered three more, and ten 30 watt'ers.

Here's the pix. The dot is not much different with the aixiz than the stock one, but the output increased some.

Just screw it right in. The small glass that came with it as you see in the pic, has the same threads, just not nearly as many! It's way down inside the module and if you use a flat screw
driver, you will scratch it taking it out. It's also glued in so be careful, it's tight. I cut a deep groove in the center of a flat head screw driver to finally get it out.

If you mean an Aixiz glass lens, you can get them a bunch of places; on eBay from "Aixiz", on eBay from "bogartman", on Aixiz.com website. The Aixiz I put in mine had the same thread pitch as the green FocalPrice. I believe it's 9mm x 0.5. Yeah, that's it.

It's a little tricky how they list them. Aixiz sells the full threaded ones but shows pictures of half threaded ones. They also list them as 405nm, which should cover 400nm to 450nm or so, but the info doesn't jump right out at you.

What bogartman is selling for more money, I don't really know. It could be for red because it just says glass and if he's only selling it for $2 more than Aixiz, then there's not much profit if any. In my experience, his markup is 90% to 95% and that is only 20%. Many glass lens are sold all over town, but aren't specified which color they are for.

Oh, I'm sorry, I think you meant the standard acrylic/plastic lens. There is no need for glass in the green focalprice at those low wattages anyway. I guess Aixiz is the place for the acrylic. You can also get them included in the blank modules they sell too.

I'm surprised it even outputs more than 100mw.
A nice little keychain. I'll be sure to order one sooner or later.

Yeah, for sure. My larger hand held 200mW from Focal only puts out 110mW. 140mW seems to be the standard for the keychain. It's their tracking that sux. You enter the verification number a thousand times and it will say it's wrong. Plus they want you to input the "item" number, but all you have to work with is the Tracking Number and the Order#. It's a stupid system. Kinda like our Postal System, really messed up. I know, I worked there for 8 years hauling mail.
