Recently I posted a build review on a couple of Kryton Groove hosts that I purchased from "Grainde." An M140nm and a 520nm.

Today I will be giving a short review on Sinners MS-ENVY and the builds.

First up I will point out that these two hosts were purchased at a very good reduced price, USD 20. They were reduced as they were the last of the batch and had some slight cosmetic defects and I must say they were slight!
Here they are.

There are some slight cosmetic marks on these hosts but the machining is excellent! Can you make out the join of the tail cap?

A breakdown of the Host. See the hole where the grub screw goes, well a standard size camera mount screws in there too. Neat!

The business end. You can see the top of the driver pill there. This was a little "can" type, different to others I have seen in the MS-ENVY in other posts. In one build the driver fitted nicely inside thermal glued to the bottom. on the other build the driver was longer and i had a bit more trouble fitting it. The can type pill could be another 5-7mm longer!

Tail cap and Clicky Switch. I have to say that these switches really do look the part But! The but is sometimes they do not always work on the first click.

Some beam shots. 9mm 445nm @ 2.5W and a 638nm @ 640mW

Oh and here is a shot of the "DOT" For those that already know look away now!

BOEING is looking at mounting those wings on it's next Airbus. Only a mother could love that!:cryyy:
The 9mm 445nm and the 635nm plus drivers were both purchased from DTR. If you are looking for build parts he is the man to see. Good prices and fast delivery. He must live in the Post Office basement because it is the quickest receive time, every time out of any purchases from the US. If you are looking for silicone wire, solder etc check out Flaminpyro. For those that don't know, they plus others can be found here. http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/
Overall this is a Great host with superb heat sinking with great and precise machining. Yeah sure it is not the fanciest of hosts but it does a great job of doing what it is supposed to, housing a diode module without letting things get hot to quickly.:D
I have not purchased nor seen in person any of Sinner's other hosts but I am sure that his workmanship on them would be just as good or better that these. I will certainly be shopping with him again!
Hope you liked this review. Enjoy your day!

Nice builds! I love elegance, and you certainly have that in these hosts. That picture where the blue and red cast a puplish hue to the side is lovely.

Yes nicely worded Wannaburnstuff, they are simple and Elegant! The side reflection is coming from a 15m Freelight tower dating back from the 50's. It now holds a 5 Element HF Radio YAGI Beam.

Do you have a plan for these Tmack or are you waiting for something "New" to pop up?:)
I am lookin/thinkin about what to do next?

I'm not really sure. I'm working on completing those zasers at the moment, so these are kind of on the back burner. I was really thinking about a 9mm at 2a to have a pocket burner that I could scratch and beat up, because I could just sand and polish them if needed. But they are a little too nice for that lol.

Nice set of MS-Envy's you've got Busman :yh: You've certainly been putting out some awesome content lately, looking forward to more of your build threads.

Keep up the good work

@ Tmack. Well the ones I got for 20 bucks is just a couple of $ more than a C6 host AND FAR BETTER. I figure you can't go wrong at that! Scratch and Burn I say. Share with us your builds when you get them done!

@ Will Manners. G'day Will and thanks for the comments. I did promise in the http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/2-x-kryton-groove-88585.html#post1289110 that I would be also doing this review plus one on some C6's that I have been doing. Yeah I know that they have all been done before but for a noob coming here a fresh thread would be good, you know how some young fellas are to impatient to look around for more than five minutes, they need to have a proper mummy's look!:na:
Thinking into the future a 1W 520nm is on the cards (Looking for noooice host)
Also watching to see what is happening with these new 9mm 445nm diodes, Rick Trent has got over 6W outa one but is that going to be the norm???
Catcha round Will.

Built one tonight :) 2.6w at 2.2a. Man the pill that was in mine took some serious modifying. But she's lasing. My button is good though. You got a good pill and I got a good button ;)

I also reverse the polarity. I put my negative in first because of how the driver was setup. Weird. Had to remove sinners spring, add my own contact from one of sinners other contact boards. Was a pain. I had to grind down the pill. All kinds of hiccups

Sounds like it got a bit tricky there Tmack. The Xdrive on my 445 did not fit the pill properly as it was to long. would have preferred a longer can style pill of even this one fro Sinners own 3.5W build. http://i42.tinypic.com/2j4pmwo.jpg
As for the clucky button you were lucky, the one in the red seems to be ok now but the other still plays up.:(
Any pics on the way Tmack???

*drool* Those are two really nice hosts. :D Love the picture of them shining up into the sky. :D
