Does the LOC require similar power to a PHR BR then, (ignorance showing :()? The protoype I built with a RCKSTR driver, running a SenKat diode, and using a similar battery is a great little stable burner with a long time between charges.

So I can just double up on batteries? :-/ I had hoped to avoid that. I checked the RCKSTR before installation, (I now have a test-load! ;)). It was a preassembled one and has worked fine with other LDs. (Blew the socks off a couple of the IR/reds from the PHR sled but that was my mistake!)

Tinker time over the weekend then.

I'll post any observations.

Although I have a couple of LOC's I have not tried them out yet, but being reds I would have thought that they would be nominaly 3v. From memory the Rkcstr needs a min of 2v above the LD voltage.... I am sure someone will wade in and correct me if I am wrong ;)

I have now changed the LD and put in one of the IR/red diodes from the PHR-803T sled. This means I can keep to one, 3.6V battery.

Much, much better! The Rckstr driver is turned as low as possible to try and keep the LD alive. I'm not expecting too much from it as the previous test diode faded away quite quickly at a similar setting. However, it seems happy enough now that it's in its enclosure with a proper switch, etc. (I would give you all some figures for that last bit but I'm having trouble interpretting my multi-meter and test-load. More experience needed here I think! :().

I have to say that it is a really nice colour. Deep red, (I have checked that I only hooked up the RED side and not the IR as well! ;)), and a tiny, tiny spot. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the rather strange uncollimated spot. It seemed to have a line running through the middle, (just above centre), parallel to the, "fast axis", (I think I've used the correct terminology?). The IR diode perhaps?

I'll post a shot of the patterns, as they are now brighter, crisper and sharper!

If I'm right in my thinking, the next stage would be to get a driver from Dr.Lava and try again with the LOC, as that driver should be able to power it on 3.6V.
