This driver has 6 pots, thick wire is LD. But I don’t know how to power up the board. I’ll be back from vacation on Saturday and try to power this thing up. :san:

Edit: I see mid pot has no glue on it. Might be dead LD , who knows.

Laser head has all warranty stickers on it. So I guess that fine

My post is making me laugh. Something went wrong with my brain definitely .

I want to see opinions about driver, otherwise I’ll try to run LD directly from my PSU

Can you post more than just one view of the driver board? Would like to see all sides of it. If fact, I'd like to see everything you have concerning this laser.

Here are some pics. Managed to open laser head and found out that glue is like a rock there, it would be hard to get inside of the module.

From what I can see, I suspect you need a +5 volt supply around 20 amps to connect to the driver for power. These are available inexpensively on eBay new for around $20.00 or less, IIRC. This is similar to my 1300 mW 532nm laser.

I have tested the laser, output is low and threshold is around 2.5A and output remains low till 5A. Most likely it needs a pump replacement, don’t think it’s a misalligned as it’s all rock steady inside.

I tried to unscrew back of the module and no success. Pics:

There is always a chance you might find a pump diode cheap on eBay. I would put it all back together and go hunting. A new one will be too high. Maybe you can find just the head for this cheap. That is how I would proceed.

How about this one? If I run it 15A it will settle around 10w. It’s a bar and I don’t know how to make 2x2mm spot with this diode.

Fiber coupled is the best option, makes getting the spot down to a reasonable size fairly easy. Those bar diodes use 19 multimode emitters so the output is a mess without either a lot of optics or fiber coupling.

The fiber coupled modules use the same diode array with a fiber bundle, one fiber coupled to each emitter on the array.

That's good advice, Nexgen. You will have a nightmare trying to get those diodes focused into your crystals without some kind of optical array.

Best option so far is the same 10w Diode that was used before it died. New will cost $248, plus I don’t have test load to test driver current, etc. This laser was outputting way more than 1 or 2w. I don’t know. Risk is big according to my budget. This is good example and you will learn something new always when the problem is solved. As Paul mentioned - there’s a unit on eBay that costs $409 and outputs 1.3W. Best I can get is to put all this aside till best times. I’m currently enjoying my new 473nm 300mw unit, enough fun for me :rolleyes:
