Well damn, their site doesnt explicitly say they manufacture, only provide. It had a been a while since ive looked at cni`s site, my bad. Although im sure I saw some picture of their factory, and a diode manufacturing area...I saw a wafer fabricator,or whatever the heck its called at least. Plus it stands to reason a opto company as big as CNI would be able to produce diodes.

Why is that? Do you know how expensive it is to set up fabs to create microelectronic devices, let alone those that employ the exotic semiconductors and processes that go into making laser diodes -- especially these newer shorter wavelength lasers? What about the slew of patents that have to be licensed to create such diodes? Have you ever heard of a CNI-branded diode? Ever?

CNI is a DPSS laser manufacturer with some diode-based lasers on the side that fit into their cases. Their expertise is piecing together components in a precision manner for DPSS lasers, not the intricacies of manufacturing diode lasers. They probably coat or produce the optics they need, but source crystals, and diodes from other dedicated manufacturers. They make their money on the finished assembled lasers and other equipment.

I noticed this company has about 4 or 5 different Lasers each in 4 or 5 different versions at less than 5 milliwatt with IR Filters ..

Premium Blue Laser Pointer - Sapphire Series

They have a few cheaper Blues with different Hosts etc.

And a 515nm Green and 532 nm Green in

pen style and a few other Lion style and waterproof hosts etc. Still legal power etc.

I have not ordered yet but in the higher priced low honest power these seem quite good...

Z-Bolt has been in business for many many years. Based in England as I recall.
 
They use a transistor to create the beam rather than DPSS..

They make some ruggedized versions which use Lion Batteries and have a Red, Blue , Green 532 , and a wide temperature range 515nm which might be really cool.

The Blue is around 450nm but Z-Bolt claims visible beam at night on the Blue with 4500 Ft range and the Greens also visible with a 4.5 mile range.

On a Blue with a 5 milliwatt rating ...is this possible ?

These also have IR Filter so safe to use without Goggles and are continuous duty.

Any advantages to the 515 and the non doubling InGan transistor generation method ?
 
10mW of 450nm has a (barely) visible beam at night. IR filters are only needed for DPSS (532nm, 473nm, etc). The advantage of a 515nm is the cooler color (if you prefer that) and the fact it'll be more stable.

Here is the technical specs .

They actually specify a 2 mile range and visible beam on the Blue.

Both greens ..the 515nm which is also
specified as wide temperature range are specified as 5 mile range visible beam at night.

The Red is specified as dot only.

They are all constant duty cycle and waterproof..

They make some others which are not
waterproof in different hosts.

Is it possible that because these are InGan - that there is a tighter beam and thus higher visibility ?

I wish the Blue was higher frequency like your 473nm...but it would be cool if these specs are true because they are IR Filtered and will require no goggles and much safer due to low power.

I think they also make low power Lasers for the Military ..same power etc.

What do you think of the claims ?
 
Visibility claims are usually bullshit on all laser sellers. Expect these lasers to have reasonable divergence (as most single mode lasers do). The claimed constant duty cycle is probably true.

If you want my personal opinion they are way overpriced. I'd rather buy a pen from ebay and replace it if it breaks. But then again I've never been the one to pay more for "premium" products.

I agree on the overpriced part for sure.

Compared to the Laserglow Galileo they are equally overpriced and I suspect a bit better with less divergence (wild guess) .

The idea of the low power is safe without goggles..I can trust that they will not be overpowered.

Also if the Beam fully diffuses ( not sure on the Greens- they might have a fairly long range) after a half mile or so - that is probably a good thing if I use it outdoors.

I know I won't point at a vehicle ,person, aircraft BUT if a pilot even SEES a beam at a distance NOT pointed in his direction they might report it...Dispatch might report to Authorities and they might misconstrue etc.

THAT would be the problem with a powerful laser an exagerrated or error reporting.

So a weaker though overpriced Laser is better for me anyway.

I noticed that the really amazing colors are usually available for even more money in low accurately rated Power but most are not continuous duty and really expensive.

I appreciate your input.

One more thing...do you think the Blue 450nm will have a visible beam in a dark room or outside ?

450nm is pretty low...I wish I could get a higher wavelength Blue but those are very expensive.
 
My 450nm ebay pen meters 12mW and does have a visible beam, but just barely.
