You need energy to fluoresce things, there is a minimum amount of energy required to push the electrons up in energy. The light given off by the material is from electrons falling back down in energy, and energy levels are quantized, and there is a specific energy gap that the electrons must jump up through in order to hang there and fall back down slowly, giving you a continuous emission of light. Blue, violet, and ultraviolet are all higher energy photons than green photons; so they have enough energy to excite the electrons up in energy, where they can fall back down later and emit that light, where green does not have enough energy.

Yes. I tryed it and it doesn't work. I think that Razako did it with 473nm. The wavelenght is too long with a green laser. I don't know why, but I bett that you can find out via google or wikipedia. Search for "fluorescence" or something :).

My 473 will charge GITD stuff, but it's fairly weak compared to what I've seen from 405's.

Hey guys I just got mine yesterday. Very nicely done. I don't have a trusted source to measure 405 nm accurately but I can say it's no less than 15mW. Collimated down it easily stings the skin, burns hair off my arm and smokes a lot of things readily. I don't have any dark coloured balloons handy (just blue out of all things) and it "draws" on the blue nicely and if you hold it very still within the tiny focal point the balloon gets a nice hole in it and starts leaking out. I have diamond red tipped matches and can get them smoking like crazy but there's just not enough thermal excitement to trigger ignition. As you guessed with such a short wavelength focusing this down to a really tiny beam is possible. (hence the highest storage capacity for its intended use in BD products)

The USB charger works nice too and the runtime is definitely long because I was using it for quite a while yesterday and when I plugged it into a USB hub the red light was on for 10 minutes and shut off indicating a full charge!

This device definitely falls into the "can't put it down" category! ;D

I have an old fashioned Sony WEGA CRT and was running circles on it with the lights off and the afterglow looked exactly as in the movie "The Ring". Luckily the floor stayed dry. ;)

If you're looking for something that's easily adjustable and hassle free in the battery department, this laser definitely deserves consideration. It's very good at drawing on GITD stuff.

Mine was shipped with a small 1"x1" GTID ceramic tile. I need to get a few boxes of these to cover the ceiling in the head. It would give a new meaning to drawing pictures while doing your business! ;D

I'll have to get some pix and maybe some videos of this thing too.

Cheers!

Glad you like the laser and good to hear it arrived okay. Thanks for the good review. :)
You should have just about 7 hours of constant runtime before a recharge. This has been tested and not just theory. ;)

Well, soon enough I'll be creating a higher powered one with many more watts!! Probably good you had waited. ;)
