My thoughts exactly! Since I have a DX30 coming in the mail (hopefully this week) I'm planning to remove the red LD in one of the projectors and drill out a hole to accept the green pen (ala Rog8811's DIY scanner project). For now I just want to make a receiver for full size pointers, but with these things being so cheap it might be worth it to get some 5-10mw green diodes and permanently modify a few.

Mine came in today but my AAA batteries I had around were kinda low.
:(
I'll have to pick up a fresh set of batteries and try again.
Looks cool so far.

At the price they are going for it makes it almost pointless making one :-/. I paid more than that in parts for mine..........(although i enjoyed the build)

I would say that drilling out for the greenie is a good way to go. it may be worth looking at the cable gland idea to hold it firmly in place.

Rog - Your design is awesome... If I didn't know better I would say they copied this from your video/tutorial... I was all set to try a build until I saw this... 9.99 is a ridiculous price...

Gaz: My Pioneer 112D should be arriving today, for my first homebrew. My first attempt was on a LiteOn 20x, and I just wanted to say thanks for your posting detailing the trouble with this drive and recommending the Pioneer. Just the fact that someone with experience building DIY reds had the same problems I did made me feel loads better in the wake of killing my first LD.

THe only possible improvement I could see would be re-orienting the mirrors so that it accepts the LD module from the rear (like Rog's design) instead of the right front corner. But it might just be more trouble than its worth. Time will tell.

I'll probably drill mine out whenever my DX pointer gets here, will post more pics when I do.

EXCELLENT pics there Mr Burns . There seems to be a whole plethora of these little prebuilt scanners flooding the market, which is great news for us scanner freaks.. ;D ;D.

Rog : Keep making those little beauties. It's the creativity and the actual making of these things that give you , and us the real joy of what is possible. Maybe you can make the UK laser meet on the weekend of the 29th , check out the post in General and PM me for more details if you are available.

Hi Jase, sadly for the second time you have chosen a w/e when I have to work...
(kids birthday parties in the dark depths of the Surrey countryside).....

Maybe next time

Mister Burns how did you get yours to do circles like that? I can't seem to get mine to do that. Maybe its just the shutter speed?

Mine won't do that either. Must be shutter speed. Hopefully we didn't get a bad batch from China.

:-/

I noticed also that if I switch either motor back and forth a few time the motor will stop. This is usually a good way to get just a tunnel.

Check it. - Sorry the red is so faint.
