I've just seen these on futurlec, perhaps some people here might be interested: 10 mW 532 modules for $6.90: http://www.futurlec.com/Laser_Diode.shtml

Personally i've ordered (other) stuff from futurlec, and service is quite good - though it may take some time to arrive if its shipped from their bangkok warehouse. Shipping starts at $4 depending on order total and destination so it's doable.

they look like modules you get out of those crappy red keychains. maybe they would fit in there.
anyone got one?

I think its bigger than what you get from most keychain lasers, but also, the polarity is likely to be wrong (i.e. green modules usually have their case positive).

If I order some other stuff from futurlec i'll include one of these to give it a go. I doubt their performance is interesting in any way, but at $6.90, you probably can't expect that much.

I just bought one yesterday, which I intend to destroy. We'll see how well it holds up. The $6.90 price tag got me curious.

That's a great deal.
Problem is that it takes 6V, which is quite hard to get to.

2 X CR123 -- 2 X CR2 -- :-?

I mean that it takes 6v, unlike other conventional green modules. And it is a big difference if you are using NiMH or alkaline batteries.

I wonder how that goes... perhaps it'll have a properly regulated driver that you fry instead of the pump diode. Futurlec is primarily an electronics firm, so i wouldn't be surprised if the electronics on this thing are better than most.

Perhaps it also runs well of somewhat lower voltages, would be interesting to know if its 5v-compatible.

DO NOT BUY THIS LASER! I bought one and it is a low-powered red diode. Maybe 5mW if you're lucky. Not worth $6.90

They changed the description to match, i see - I'm 100% positive it said 10 mW green before.

You should request a refund, it was obviously marked as a green laser by mistake.

Until I get in an order from Futurlec that I ordered over a month ago...My advice is to stay away from them. Their shipping times are awful.

I guess you must have ordered something not in stock then? I've ordered from them before (not laser stuff but common electronics), took about 2 weeks to get here (europe) and the package was shipped from bangkok.

I ordered some custom boards. It took a week to get them to start responding to my e-mails, and additional three days to fix the order, a week to make the boards, and it's been two weeks and three days since they said they shipped. Shipping is to the U.S.

I didn't realize they were shipping from Asia, so I thought their quoted week turnaround time would get the boards to me within two weeks' time. The tracking number they gave me also doesn't work.
