1 watt 808nm laser build for 75 bucks.

You will need a very good heatsink, I'm not sure if washers are going to work very well, and you can't fit them in a mini maglight

Ask Mohrenberg if he has some heatsinks left (He used to build Phrs and Locs for 70USD using the MXDL as a host).

Has anyone build a similar laser? What was the duty cycle like?

your going to be sadly dissapointed im afraid...

I build IR burning lasers... and this is no easy task. you will need an uber host, an uber heatsink and not to mention heatsinks for the flexdrive if you plan on driving it over its stock limit of 430mAh...

Garunteed it kills itself in less than 60 seconds... and i speak from experiance, im not criticizing you.

A REAL 1Watt build would run you at least 400 dollars.

I'm a novice in this area but in my opinion the heatsink is probably a very crutial part. especially on a high powered laser. SOmething I'll have to remember when I start my first build in a few months.

$400? IR is cheap, anybody could build a 1W IR laser for well under $400. A Merideth module costs like $40, the laser diode will be under $50, a Heatsink and MXDL you can get for under $30, and a DDL circuit you can build for $5, if you need more than 1.5A for the diode then double them up for $10. A simple MXDL build would cost well under $150, yes you need heatsinking but not that much, a heatsinked MXDL will provide plenty enough heatsinking if you follow a decent duty cycle. Battery life won't be too great but for the price it would be fine.

I've just won 1W 808nm 9mm diode for $27.
But now I need 9mm diode housing.
Where can I get cheapest housing for 9mm diode?

I'm wondering why are 9mm modules above 20-30 dollars.

Hey guiz, I just finished buying everything. I got the diode for 21.50 (fuck yeah ebay)
the host for 6.73
The module for 6.95
And the driver for $30
Final cost (excluding a couple cents here and there for washers and solder)
$65.18.

Where did you get the 9mm diode suitable module for $6.95?

Yeah.
Funny.
No one know where to find 9mm modules.
But is it possible to modify 5.6mm axiz module?

Seems like you forgot something very important :

Laser safety goggles?

I don't see them anywhere, so don't forget you need good ones for that power of IR.

We know where to get them but for $30. I want to know where he got one for $6.

About the flexdrive, I ended up not buying the one that someone sells on this site, I went for a stronger one who's operational limit is 1.5 amps. Yes, I WIlL need a very good heatsink for pretty much everything considering 1.2 amps will be running through a fingertip sized piece of PCB. I'm using only a 3 volt cr2 battery, and I'm aware this thing will go through those like a dog through beggin' strips (They taste JUST like real bacon!) But I've gotten technical advice from everyone I bought from, and they all had concerns, but said this project was doable.
