Funny thing, I was going to bid on that as well and resell each diode for 35 bucks.
...But I missed the bidding by three minutes when I started making dinner.

$400? IR is cheap, anybody could build a 1W IR laser for well under $400. A Merideth module costs like $40, the laser diode will be under $50, a Heatsink and MXDL you can get for under $30, and a DDL circuit you can build for $5, if you need more than 1.5A for the diode then double them up for $10. A simple MXDL build would cost well under $150, yes you need heatsinking but not that much, a heatsinked MXDL will provide plenty enough heatsinking if you follow a decent duty cycle. Battery life won't be too great but for the price it would be fine.A REAL 1Watt build would run you at least 400 dollars.
Hey guiz, I just finished buying everything. I got the diode for 21.50 (fuck yeah ebay)
the host for 6.73
The module for 6.95
And the driver for $30
Final cost (excluding a couple cents here and there for washers and solder)
$65.18.

Where can the 9mm module be had for $6.95?
your going to be sadly dissapointed im afraid...
I build IR burning lasers... and this is no easy task. you will need an uber host, an uber heatsink and not to mention heatsinks for the flexdrive if you plan on driving it over its stock limit of 430mAh...
Garunteed it kills itself in less than 60 seconds... and i speak from experiance, im not criticizing you.
