1 watt 447nm Laser Pointers from Dragonlasers Now Available

Re: Who else is jumping on the DragonLasers bandwagon. :)

Hey guys, the Spartan is a CNI unit.
There is discussion of a CNI GB on the 447 units.

Also, as far as I know, the 447 spartan is in stock and ready to ship, however quantity is limited for the moment (says the Dragon Lasers rep).

Re: Who else is jumping on the DragonLasers bandwagon. :)

What the heck? I see this laser as a better deal since he has the beam expander to fit this device!(though he's out of stock for now)

Does anyone know if you order one now when they will ship?

They have several in stock, but he said if there's a large influx of orders, the people who are repeat customers get priority. I believe they stopped selling the beam expanders a few months ago.

Re: Who else is jumping on the DragonLasers bandwagon. :)

im tempted to get it, but i have a spare 445 diode and module, so i could just grab a host/driver and make one, saving loads. guess its not the same though lol.

im tempted to get a 600mW model and try raising it to around 800mW, but it might affect the mode. dont know enough to guess. they'll probably be running the diodes conservatively though, to be selling to the public from a good quality store, so there is probably a little room for pot modding.

Re: Who else is jumping on the DragonLasers bandwagon. :)

My first 2 attempts to order resulted in my bank putting my card on hold for suspicious activity. Odd they did not do that for Wicked Lasers...

Oder ID: 104xx

I also ordered a beam expander adapter. He said he is working on getting more in stock( beam expanders), but that it will be a while till he has them.

Lets see how long this one takes!

Spartan Series Blue Handheld Laser, Rectangle Beam, Central Wavelength 447nm +/-5nm, Optical output power less than 1Watt
^this worries me

All multimode diode lasers have a rectangular output. To get 1W (without overdriving) they remove the corrective optics.

so this laser dose not have corrective optics? because thats all i would be buying for, i already have a 1watt blue without corrective optics.

I HIGHLY DOUBT they have corrective optics.

I mean, think about it. So much easier to pass the light through a metal hole, essentially "clipping" the output. That way you end up with a nice circle.

Makes sense as the 200mw and 400mw say "circular" but 1000mW says "rectangular" beam.

Also, I feel that selling a 445nm for anymore than $250 is just ripping people off.

So the arctic price hike is just bullshit. I mean it's a <$50 diode FFS...

Do these (spartan) use 18650s ?

the "clipping" method (forgot what it was really called) would only give you 10mW from a 1 Watt input, according to a friend.

How so? lol

You don't have to clip 90% of the output. Just cut the rectangle into a circle. That can be easily done while still having 50% of the output.

But who knows, maybe they don't clip they output. They might actually have corrective optics. However at this price point, I doubt it.

Also, considering the 1W costs "more" but claims rectangular output, it's more the reason to believe there are no corrective optics here.

You do realize clipping wouldn't really work unless you were far from the lens, right? Otherwise the wings will just reappear, with a loss of power. (Wings, bar, same thing)

prototype: it would work if done correctly, its called a spatial filter. however loses are far greater than correction optics after filtering you get 1%.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work, I know it will, it's just not very effective in a handheld.
