So my new DHOM green laser arrived. The laser was as a 1 Watt but I asked them to find one with a higher power. They were very helpful and said the one I’ll receive will output 1600-1800mW. I tested the laser when it arrived and it did indeed do 1657mW. A steal @ $850!
I benchmarked the laser with my 510mW green labby. The spot was of the DHOM was MUCH brighter than the 510mW as expected. Blinding bright! However, after filling the room with smoke the beam brightness seemed identical. Possible eye saturation of the green beam? I don’t know. Even outside the beams were almost identical in visibility. Again the spot on the wall was much brigher. I was expecting a huge difference between 510 and 1657mW! The only way to see a beam difference was by having them side by side in a lit room without smoke. Only then is the 1600mW fairly more visible.
This means that future green upgrades would have to be @ the 4-5 Watt range for an acceptable brighter beam. Upgrading to a 2.5W greenie wouldn’t then appear much brighter than a 1.6W.....
Anyway, I imbedded the new laser into my system and simple math showed that 1650 green + 1800 blue + 1187 red = 4647mW all lines. This was NOT the case.
Total output after dichroics and scanners was a “low” 2500mW. The loss of red is expected as the beam doesn’t quite fit the mirrors on the galvos but there is some 500mW loss per green/blue laser due to the dichroics. Sad
Don’t know if it would be worthwhile replacing the dichroics...?
I must give the green DHOM high praises for overall built quality. The divergence is rather good (about 60mm) after 26 meters. The 510mW green was @ 90mm. It may not be American or German quality but well acceptable at the low price.
