What? The OP has a link to the auction in question, the HeNe you linked is pretty much just as bad of a deal. A known dead HeNe is only worth something as a decoration since it's just a glass tube. There's no "parts" inside that can be reused.

Ahh ok, I see now - and yeah it's just best to stay away from stuff like that, and search for stuff like DNA sequencers since it's known they are run at a very low current for operation and as such are usually still quite healthy when the sequencer is removed from service.
