You'll just have to experiment with your setup and it all depends on the laser you choose, the camera, software, even the projector if it's putting out IR. IMO get a visible light filter that let's IR pass like this one and an 808nm laser and experiment - ?10MM 1mm 810nm 980nm High Pass 850nm...

Within the hobby purple lasers are the best for charging up glow in the dark objects, and they also have a very good burning ability per watt since most materials absorb the lower wavelengths better.
