Whether it goes up or goes bang, gonna be spectacular either way. If it works it's gonna cut the cost per kg to orbit by a factor of 10 or more. Revolutionary stuph.

    Broken blue, 1000 MW 450 N M laser

I think you just made my point for me about keeping these things securely locked up. Does your 14 year old actually understand how dangerous a one watt laser can be if misused? Do they understand what constitutes misuse? Do YOU understand those things? I may come across as being harsh but a...

Oooo, I like that color shift. I wonder how much current these can take.

    Broken blue, 1000 MW 450 N M laser

Ummmm......well.......... If you're going to store your 1 watt laser anywhere your kid can potentially get hold of it you may find many of the members of this community reluctant to help you. Anyone with high power lasers should store them the way they would store guns. Especially if they have...

Low powered LP (<5mw), not pulsed that can stay on 72 hours+

Here's a link to a low power red diode that will run for a loooooong time: https://laserpointerforums.com/threads/the-little-diode-that-could.86460/

Driver for an RGB laser, optlasers schematics?

I'm talking about using a MOSFET, or even a bipolar transistor, to control VOLTAGE to a diode and resistor in series. The resistor should be sized to set the upper limit on diode current when the transistor is switched fully on.

Driver for an RGB laser, optlasers schematics?

What's your input for the analog driver? You could just use a power transistor, with a resistor in series with the diode that would be of an appropriate value to set a hard upper limit on current through the diode.

lots of NOS diode presses/mirrors/heatsinks/modules etc..

Modules arrived today. All in good working order. Thanks for the extra goodies too :-) I have a 488 diode that's been waiting for an axiz module 🍻

Well, It's Been a Long Time for Me as Well

......." isn't that many vendors as years ago" --Most of the old vendors were selling modules from just 3 OEMs. With diodes I prefer to think of the situation as having more choices, not less. DTR, 'nuff said. ....."the amount of nonsense in power ratings", --Too true...

Fast laser switching causing damage to diode?

532nm is DPSS. I'm guessing the driver in the module didn't like the rapid-fire power cycling. Try with a direct diode laser. Be mindful that your circuitry doesn't generate current/voltage spikes when switching the laser on. You might want to try a gated shunt-regulator topology for clean...

The listing syays they have more than one. I bet their second auction will have a reserve. I'll be watching this one :)

Dangers of shining a 303 laser through a window

Clean glass is usually prety shiny so, yeah, specular reflection. But a '303 is usually in the 50 or mW class and most of the beam's power went through the window. You flashed yourself with only a few percent of the output of the pointer. No one here can diagnose your eyes but, going out on a...

    Make a disinfecting flashlight ?

Not as well as you might think. Every type of phosphorescent material has a wavelength it absorbs best. A few years back I coated a scrim drop with a mixture of phosphors: red, green, and blue. The red would respond strongly to a green laser, but green light wouldn't excite the other...

I'll take the green DPSS modules. I'll start the bidding @ $80.

    Lessee.....<checking math> 7 bars @ 100W/bar......49 emitters/bar.......yep. ~2 watts per diode.

I think my laser pointer's lens is dirty

The lens in your laser 303 is plastic and you have just sanded it to death (or possibly used a solvent the plastic couldn't handle). Sorry, but the '303s are cheap lasers with cheap components.

Old dog with a new "toy"

When I built by first '140 pointer I showed it off to a few people @ work. One engineer (now my manager :) ) scoffed at my claim of a bit over one watt. He had just changed into his bike shorts for the ride home, so I dotted his knee. He became a believer about a second and a half later!

    Blue laser 74W NUBM35 Portabl?

OK, questionable seller, check. But I gotta ask: Did the array come soldered to the PCB like that? Meaning you unsoldered it yourself. Did you observe correct practices to avoid any and all ESD issues when you disconnected it from the PCB?
