Good morning! I am looking into building a 488nm pen style laser using the 488nm diode from DR'S shop, but I want to know what the minimum power I could get with it. I saw the power readings on his page, but ideally I would like to be under 30mW at the most. Is this possible with that diode? And...

There is a thread floating around that has those numbers. As I recall it wasn’t a large amount which is why my primary concern was keeping a clean beam. Here is what DTR sent me in answer to my question:

Yes, this build utilizes a 2-element glass lens for precisely that reason. I hate messy output

Not sure what any measurements are. When setting it up I focused the lens down to the best spot I could get out at 60 feet and in practice that appears to have worked very well as it looks pretty tight at night pointing up or at a distant house. As far as power goes, I’ll just say that it is...
