But I thought it's frequency doubled, how come 1064nm isn't upconverted to 2128?

f * λ = c

Frequency x wavelength = speed of light

so wavelength = speed of light / frequency

if frequency is bigger wavelength gets smaller.

About the swallows...Is there a coconut involved in there too ?

About the naked Women...I think it depends on the physical attributes of them, their desire to involve themselves in lasers, their abilities to understand the mechanics of the problem. their "group" (not grope !) work skills, and how big their t--s are.

About the DPSS...there are many other frequencies (colors) of lasers that use this system but if you had said "That makes it usually green." you may have gotten away with it.

About the wavelength determination in a DPSS system...I DIDN'T KNOW THAT ! I always wondered about that too. Thanks ! Something new to learn every day.

About "knowing it all"...You have come a long way in the last couple of months. But it is only the tip of the iceberg as the saying goes. I can appreciate your efforts to be tested by the membership but perhaps it is still a bit early for it.
But as it taught me something new I will say "good job" anyways.

About your signature... you need to correct your spelling of the word "main". Otherwise you are doing pretty good with the English. Anybody who spends any time here will note that you are far from being hard to understand. Congratulations.

Whoops. Gotta go...

African or European?

Dammit, midias! ........ Beat me to it!

Okay smarty-pants......What is the airspeed velocity of a COCONUT LADEN swallow?? HMMM? :na:

how many jigawatts is a flux capacitor?

Typically, 1.21 (Though the Gen-2 units in development are rumored to be at least two orders of magnitude more efficient.) WOOHOO! Roarin' 20's, here I come!

Okay, back on topic- Gofilord: When specifying the parameters of a Fabry-Perot etalon, what is meant by "finesse", and why is it important?

I'm back.

About Jigawatts...I believe that it is Gigawatts with a "G". In accordance to the rules of English language the "G" is given the `soft' sound like a "J" as it is immediately followed by a vowel.

About that signature correction...damn. You are fast !

About the coconuts...I posted first. Nyah nyah nyah.

About the Fabry-Perot etalon...Ouch. I think I just sprained my brain. Good thing about getting older, I can blame it for not remembering the details on something I read in the last few months. But I would like a refresher if you might be bothered.

I think I hear the boss coming...

I suggest glasses with eyes in them.

Why is it that we can use laser diodes to produce a beam, but not regular LED emitters?

You can but the divergence sucks... I think they call it
a Light Emitting Diode Flashlight....:D

Jerry

So in theory you could have a 1000 watt searchlight (with all the right lenses) collimated into a single beam (at least for a short distance)

The divergence would be terrible of course.

And after those lenses you probably still looking at >700watts :D

Fresnel lens ftw!
