What do you use your laser for?

So after you've got all your gear, what exactly are the uses of a laser pointer? I can't think of much.... perhaps I'll burn some bugs

burning bugs is the most "useful" thing i've done with my 445
One professor of the university I attend is very interested on doing some experiments with a ttl laser I have, hopefully in a month or two we'll get to do some interesting stuff

There are more uses... I look for things that fluoresce, minerals & fungi etc. I also use lasers as star pointers, and explore light show effect making. There are lasers I put into use for medical research and industrial testing. Did you know the plastic that is under stress may show the stress in laser light? There will be many many more discoveries I assure you! -Glenn

I know that I should get tired of playing around with them outside, but I don't think I ever will

I use Lasers to calibrate Laser Power Meters....

I have also used the cheap <5mW red Dollar
Store lasers to send Serial Data over long
distances...

I've also Lasers for a perimeter alarm... and
targeting...:eg:

A little imagination goes a long way....

my friends and I once (accidentally) smoked half a grasshopper... We were hanging out on a construction site at night, and didn;t notice that there was a dead bug in our bag of bud.

it crackled and popped like a seed would, so we really thought nothing of it, but later as we parted ways, and parted the remainder of the bag, we noticed the half-grasshopper in there and realized that we smoked the other half.

my friend's GF threw up immediately upon hearing "yep, we sure did smoke that grasshopper"...

You can not calibrate a Laser Power Meter with another
calibrated Laser Power meter without the use of a LASER...:cryyy:

by the manufacturer...

I'm sure that the company that charges us near $600.00
including shipping both ways to calibrate our Newport 1825C
with our Newport 818T-10 Thermopile Sensor knows what
they are doing.

The procedure they use... we are not privy to... so I can't
comment on that... but I trust they know what they are
doing...

You don't need to be a jerk about it. I was legitimately curious and I figured since your in the business you would know. If you don't that's fine.

I could have deduced that you would use a lab quality meter for your first one on my own that's not what I was getting at.

I use my 445 for Insect burning through glass, an awsome attention getting lighter, especially for those fireworks with very short wicks, burnning little black lines in wood, drilling holes in black plastic, and just messing around with the beam.

My 650 is just to mess around with and have the cats chase.

Once I get my 685 and 405 made they'll just be for what ever I can get them for, same goes for my 50mW green.

My 100mW green module however will go towards a RGB scanner.

Otherwsie most my lasers are just to say I have one.
