Most Powerful Handheld 405nm Laser?

Hello guys,
I'm new to the 405nm lasers.I did some search on forum but I couldn't find a 1W 405nm laser.I have 1W 445nm from dragonlasers and very happy with it.My question is how much power you can get maximum from a 405nm handheld laser?
I saw 400mw 405nm from o-like and rayfoss for 100usd which is so cheap.I wonder if anyone on the forum can make 1W or higher as possible?

The highest violet i have ever seen is a little less then 900mW. But you must harvest the diode yourself. and the play around with the driver a bit to get the proper current. There is a good graph here http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/12x-br-diodes-46798.html

I searched laserglow,o-like and rayfoss but they selling 400mw maximum.It seems those laser running on lower current to increase the diode life right?
I'm also curious about the total diode life of those laser.
 
You have a good point. But im saving up to make a 850mW violet. Ill let you know how it turns out. :beer:

people are usually pushing these to 600-700mW's in DIY builds and afaik none of them has died yet.
btw I don't know why all comercial lasers are only 400mW (but you should be able to pot-mod them a bit)
 
Hmmm, Maybe ill put a thread together to see how far we can push one of these little diodes. ;)

I think they are 400mw to increase the diode life but I don't know exactly.Who can make me a good 700-800 DIY and how much it costs?

Thanks.If you ask me I want a 1W violet but I think It would die so quickly because of high current.Ofcourse 5000h diode life such as greens would be dream for violet with those currents and harvested diodes I guess.

Research was done on 12X diodes when they first hit the market.
400-500mW can be had safely. 600mW and up is pushing it, but they seem to be ok at higher outputs. Some will die, some will live. For how long has not yet been determined.

Hopefully 24x 405 diodes come out sometime soon. That would be pretty sweet. If those came out we might be able to get 1W out of them. I'm hoping to acquire a 550-600mW 405nm sometime this summer.
 
okay there are many things WRONG in this thread. take some time, research this kind of thing.

jetlasers sells an 800mW 405nm laser.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER POT MOD A LASER. That's just plain ridiculous. IF you want to kill your laser, and have a expensive @$$ paperweight, go for it.

dont pot mod your lasers. theres no point or need.

I've had 2 12x's LED on me so far, so now you know, they die. :P I wouldn't push a sf-bw512L 405 past 700mW or so using a 405-g-1.. probably 650mW using any other lens.. Doing it is just asking for trouble. The two I had die were due to back reflection.. and it didn't take much of a back reflection to do it either.. One died due to changing lenses. The other when I was fluorescing stuff at close range. Both that died were running about 750mW.

jetlasers sells an 800mW 405nm laser.

I would NOT trust a 800mW 405nm for much longevity(at least not until 14x or 16x diodes come on the market). Especially if it's using a sf-bw512L diode, either from the sled, or made for the sled.. which I bet it is since that's currently the cheapest source I know of for high power 405nm diodes.
 
let me restate my post,
an 800mW VERSION, i have no idea their claims of this, or specs, but it is an 800mW version. And me personally what I have heard of Jetlasers on this forums, I would trust them with my money, and I know they supply a power output graph upon request. Also I would ask them that, if they say their 800mW version will last 1,000-5,000 hrs lifetime expectancy, and died at 5 hrs.. there would be some splainin to do!

edit: also, hakzaw has some very good relations with jetlasers, maybe he can shed/share some light on their "800mW version. their specsheet on their page says 8,000 hrs. MTTF, so i dont know if the manufacture's rating is for their diodes at 8,000 hrs. but like I said, I don't own the place or nothing, was just sharing my unvast wealth of knowledge! :beer:

If they can get 1000-5000hours at 800mW output, then it's definitely not the same diode that's in the sf-bw512L sled then. I know where the limits of those are. :P
