Got bored, so took a couple photos of my HeNe's

Firstly, my huge 13 incher ;)

And a little collection of 7 smaller ones!

Nice pics, Ive always loved the look of a HeNe tube lit up. Of the ones your selling, any going for cheap? Im not worried about it producing much of a dot, just wanted one to look pretty on my desk :P .

Nice job.

How are you powering those small ones? I have two a little larger that I want to make into a pair of desklamps and need PSs for both of them, cant really build one myself from scratch. any help from you will be appreciated. seasons greets--Hak

These guys are not being powered by any PSUs. The helium being excited by the plasma globe. I don't have any HeNe PSUs, so I can't help you. I would recommend monitoring eBay, they pop up from time to time.

duh and I have a huge plasma ball too
and I do have a saved search for those small brick PSs but they do not come up often except at at unacceptable high prices 2 to 4 times what my tubes cost- +rep for all==thanks

Back when I did gas lasers I used to test the gas mix in unknown HeNe's by microwaving them for a few seconds. :D Just don't do it long or you'll pop metal/glass seals. It's fairly easy to tell the state of the gas mixture just by the color it glows.

Ahh haha! I prfer the good ol' plasma globe test. Less likely to have a noble gas filled microwave by the end of it.

Well, since it's a noble gas you'd not have to worry about it hurting anything, or you, or even changing the flavor of your hot pockets.

That said, if one of those HeNe tubes started lasing next to the plasma globe, now, that'd be awesome. Impossible, I know. But still. :)

I've gotten a tube to lase with a flyback before. Since these plasma balls also use flybacks, It would lase if it were big enough.

About the HeNes for sale, do you have any 15cm ones and if wes could you please let me no prices and postage to Australia.

How exact is the 15cm specification? I may have one of roughly that size. The tube would be £15. No idea about costs to Australia.
