it also adds mass to the heatsink, but that's not important :p

Beamshots look cool, like colored sand just exploded out the front of 'em.

Nice work as always, FP.

Uhh , it's a focus adapter, it has nothing to do with the heatsink, only the looks which, in my subjective stance does not look good.
IF we are talking about the same thing, that is :D

I tend to disagree with you on that ED the lens cover will add mass for sinking... I say this assuMing flammin has a steel barrel. Oh my gosh!

Copper heatsink, aluminum lens barrel & threads, back to copper focus ring.

Anybody get that;).

Good job on the build flammin, now build a car or truck will ya J/K:p

Actually the only thing the focus adapter is in contact with is the lens, I don't think it's tuching anything else, it would not make sense, you would not be able to turn it.

Right? I mean, imagine the entire thing in your head... it just doesn't fit right is you say that it adds to heatsinking, unless you find the lenses in ned of heatsink, or extremely thermaly conductive...

Or is it just me that does not get it ? :banghead:

Jeff, shine some coherent light on this topic, would you?

Threads come into contact with module... if your using a Aixiz plastic not so much, if your using a glass lens then yes, thats a brass barrel threaded into the mod.

After enough run time for a good heat soak you'll feel the heat. If it was aluminum it would draw up into the barrel and around the lens cap, focus ring, what ever have you.

In flamming application that copper would wick that heat right up. ED

Wonder if you could put a super thin smear of thermal compound on the threads without it ever working its way to the glass.. maybe thermal compound then a little teflon to keep it from working its way down...
Sort of overkill though unless you are one of those "must have supreme runtime!" kinda guys.

Oh, I was the one who was mistaken. I thought those pics were without the focus adapter and lens. Yeah, it still can help, but using thermal grease on the threads is just overkill and too risky if you're using a nice coated glass lens.

Besides, FP probably threads his stuff better than your run-of-the-mill, mass-produced diode module makers. It could have enough contact to suck up a little extra heat

Yes you are completly right ! although the "brass" lens nut is threaded into the aixiz module and into the copper focus adpter and through this connection it will accept and give off heat.
And it dose, I have felt the copper focus ring getting warm after I've been using the laser as a night light
Realy it dose get a bit bit warm with long use.

You are correct also copper loves to wick heat and if it's in contact with something warmer than it's self it will allways soak it up ;)

Ohh so that's the thing..

But even so, I would prefer plain right-angle adapter, thin and knurled, instead of those pointy conical ones. (How do you call a 3D body with two bases and it's round, damn it?)

Do you mean a cylinder?
