A friend of mine saw my laser photos on facebook and was interested in taking pictures of them. He's an incredible photographer. He came over last night and we went down to a big cavernous room in the building I live in.

Here are a few of the photos we got; they're entirely unassisted. No smoke, no fog. :)

The laser is my Optotronics 155mW green pen.

We started with your standard point-the-camera-toward-the-laser shot.

Then we decided we wanted a different kind of beamshot - one that included the beam, the dot, and the corona around the dot. We did this for the remainder of our photographs.

In order to make the corona somewhat smaller, we moved the chalkboard over to be a beamstop - and ended up with a fairly iconic laser photograph.

Then we decided to get a beamshot with the lights on. I really like how it turned out; it's definitely one of the best I've gotten. Edit: This one has my friend's "ghost" in it to the right of the dot...

Edit: And one of just the laser with the lights on.

We then went outside to get a couple outdoor beamshot, but it was around -4° Celsius, so the output of the laser immediately crashed. He got a few shots of the moon and we went inside.

All in all a good night - hope you enjoyed the pictures.

Nice shots, big room too. Went to rep you and, Oh no! ... not this again:

I just realized I put up the wrong picture for the last one... you can see my friend to the right of the beam. The long exposure makes him look ghostly. :p

Thanks for the comments! :)

Edit: Added in one with just the laser with the lights on.

But does the long exposure make the beam look brighter than it actually is IRL?

In this case, we had to tweak exposure until the camera perceived the beam as well as we were.

Excellent pics!!! The chalkboard beamstop certainly did the job. D200 is a nice camera and the 18-200 lens is versatile.

Wait, was that just a good guess at what lens he used or did you know?

That's what he used...
