So, I went to the post office to go pick up my DX order, and slapped in the batteries into the true green 5mW. I was seriously amazed by the brightness of the laser! Most of you would be like..."5mW?? Thats so low!" but I have never seen a laser this bright. Its my first green laser, and definitely not my last. Compared to my 5mw red pet-store laser, it blows it away! After ~1 hour of playing with the laser, I had thought the batteries in my red laser were dead.

Anyway, just for fun, I tried a couple of the tests I see here. I can't burn through a trash-bag, but if I color a bubble of the red bubble wrap with sharpie, and hold the laser next to a magnifying glass, I can burn holes through the sharpie-coated bubble-wrap. Just from this, I doubt this is 5mW. Hopefully when my 50mW module arrives, I'll be even more amazed. Also, outside with no fog, I can see the beam perfectly. If I had gotten this a week earlier when there was a fog advisory here, I can't imagine how good this would have looked!
Just thought I would let the forum know about my first green laser.

I can relate to that.

I got a cheap $10 green pointer from ebay, I loved that green so much I then ordered my first labbie set up, I was even more impressed.

2 weeks later I joined here....

Also, something weird I noticed is that when I use the magnifying glass, if I point the beam far away, in the first second when I turn on the laser, it looks like there are two beams that circle eachother, then overlap. Also I notice the beam starts out stronger than normal, then gets to normal in ~.5 seconds.

HEy, and welcome to the forum! I was also majorly impressed when I first fired up my DX true 20mW! I was playing with it for weeks, great fun at night when you can see the beam shoot into the sky!

5mW in fairly low powered, but not to be sniffed at, its is still very right compared to a cheap red pointer. BUT a lot of people have reported these DX True mW as being WAY over spec. some mesuring more that 50mW!!! so be careful! you most likely have more than 5mW not to bad for $10.

I hope you get some heavy fog soon! its emmense!

Welcome to the addiction will burn a small hole in your wallet......literally.....

Havr fun and be safe!
