Im looking to buy a 55mw green laser, i want it to burn a bit, pop some ballons, and shine at the stars. Without it being to extremely expensive, i also live in US. Will it get taken away in shipping? I was looking to buy at optotronics, do they use IR filters? I also want to have a IR filter in it to be safe. Thanks.
Also what are some good cheap goggles/glasses that will make it so I dont damage my eyes?

Any reason why you require 55mW's exactly? lol.

Check out o-like.com, or rayfoss.com although there sites seem to be down at the moment which is annoying. They have the best bang for your buck pointer wise, they offer quality controlled lasers, with guaranteed output and great customer service from Susie :)

I would recommend DX if you want to go on the real cheap stuff, but they don't ship to the US.

As for shipping issues I've not heard of anything being seized sent from O-like and we have quite a lot of american members :)

Well unfortunately I have no idea why there sites are down, it's really annoying.

If you were looking to spend a little more, you could go with the higher quality brands that offer superb lasers, and great quality :)

dragonlasers.com
laserglow.com
cnilaser.com

They are all very good sites :) Or you can wait until O-like are back up, and they do offer a pre-build 150mW green laser for $100 if I recall, and there great little units :) They also offer modules, which you can combine with a custom made flashlight host to house it created by Jayrob, or Ehgemus also offers awesome custom made hosts for a VERY reasonable price of around $30-$40, you just slip the module in tighten the screw and your good to go :)

I believe o-like sells 150mW modules for $100 again, I have one and it's measured @ 171mW when I bought it, (not confirmed because I bought it from a member that was renowned for lying, but it's very bright and because it's o-like that seems like a believable power :))

Check out the link to the review in my signature, you can see Ehgemus's host as well :)

Thanks for the great info, whats the cheapest one that will pop balloons with ease and light matches pretty easily also while being able to point far with a good beam? And can you reccomend me some good goggles/glasses that dont look to dorky?

If you want to light matches then you will need to go for about ~100mw. Though the higher on from there, the faster the match will light.

I'm not trying to be mean, but if you can't answer those questions then you need to read around this forum a bit more in order to educate yourself about the power of these things and safety precautions.

Can you link me to some threads that you would think are helpful then?

I'm also new here, but I have gained quite some laser knowledge from just reading a lot of different topics and reviews.
Come on man, you can't expect to have everyone feed you all the info you need, just search around some more :)

Only your preferences define the word good. Do some research and you'll have multiple options.

I'll make it easy for you. Go here: http://laserpointerforums.com/search.php

Then type the words green and laser in the keywords space and select "Reviews" in the forum-box and click on "Search Now". Then tons of reviews will pop up that sometimes even include Youtube video's of the specific laser in action. Finally, choose which one you like best and order it. Good luck and thank me later.

greets,
Sven
