I decided to ask for help here, seems the largest laser information source. I dream about getting laser pointer for a long time, but im new to it and not sure about the choice. I post this t blue lasers thread, becouse i think about ordering 250mw diode+module on ebay 250mW 405nm Blue-Violet blu-ray Laser Diode in Module - eBay (item 180416790369 end time Oct-14-09 00:53:16 PDT) Can u ppl tell me how easy will be to a newbie to make a driver with a kit, wich comes with this module? Is it possible to eventually destroy the diode (or driver) by doing something wrong? And will it be true 250 mw and burn hole thrue CD case in 2 secs?
sry for noobish questions:yabbem:, hope u help.

to the Forum....

In a nutshell... I would stay away from that eBay seller....
he seems to be preying in the noobs that have no clue of a 405nm laser's
output potential..

Just the Laser Diode alone to be able to output 250mW of 405nm is going
to cost over $60.00

You will end up with an Axiz module with plastic lens... Parts to build a DIY
DDL Driver... and a PHR803T LD... which puts out about 120mW max if you
want any like out of the LD..

All these parts can easily be found in the Buy/Sell/Trade area of the Forum
for a lot cheaper... IMO

Oh... and you will need basic electronics knowledge and know how to solder
properly...

Lasersbee, Thanks a lot for help and for the info.:thanks: Looks like true 200+ mw bluray would coast up to $100... Maybe I'll try 200mw red or green one for my first laser pointer..

If you want a good 200mW red pointer... go to O-Like and pick one
up already built with batteries and charger IIRC for under $50.00

It will give you a good idea of how they are put together... then you
could buy some parts an build one yourself..

It's strange but seller say it's from bluray burner,190mA... That's not a PHR-803T.

Also lol he charge 17$ for 405nm lens

i have had contact with him 3 days ago and i ask him what diode is it and if he LPM it,he don't know what diode is but he told it was measured 414mW at 360mA with his glass lenses and died.he also told me that is the same diode that sells itself.maybe is a GGW-H20L?

don't forget to buy safety glasses for burning cuz eyes are priceless ;)

Anti-green glasses I linked to in my previous post seem to be good (tested by LPF members) and I have them coming, but lasers are generally under spec.
