Well of course at home anal sphincter rejuvenation lasers and cat toys will be exempt, so long as you don't take them apart. ;)

---edit---

In the not so distant future robotic infantry and robotic civilian enforcement officers will become a reality as will shoulder fired laser weapons, these will almost certainly be seen as " destructive devices " until court battles are won but with the likely caveat that personal laser weapons must be configured in such a way as to deliver only a " single laser shot " per single trigger pull which will be defined and codified into law with restrictions on pulse duration and total jewels of energy per single laser shot per single trigger pull, CW lasers will likely remain non-weapons below a yet to be determined output.

And your laser rifle will be required to emit a loud report with each single laser shot per single trigger pull as well as emitting a digitized RF pulse that your cell phone will make record of as will any cell phone or community placed transceiver that will denote your position on the Earth and time of day, that's if we can win the court battles to even own the dam things, well I expect the lower class will be like BB guns which is where we stand now if you build a portable pulsed YAG or other toy.

The civilian class will be defined by total allowed energy per trigger pull based heavily on less than lethal wounding and everything else will be the restricted class and hunting with laser weapons will be forbidden, or so that's my expectation if we can remain a Free-ish people with any shred of our Bill of Rights intact.

Personal robots will be heavily regulated.
Robert, you never told me you wrote Sci Fi. You do know that real sci fi as my grandfather defined it was that there are supposed to be elements of science and if you are predicting something that will actually eventually become a reality, so much the better. Historically, fantasy got mixed up with sci fi....one of my little battles is to get them to get fantasy out of sci Fi. Let it be it's own genre.

The Hugo Awards are nominated every year at world con, the sci fi conversation. I have never been and I gave absolutely no control over anything they do. Why don't you write some stories. There is a guy, I forget his name, he took my grandfather's Amazing Stories logo and made an a fantastic website where sci fi writers can put their stuff. Why don't you give it a shot. I can't guarantee you will get a Hugo Award but you never know.

Christopher Nolan got one for Inception.

How awesome would it be to be able to take a peek at the future in 100 years, 200 years, 500 years .......but then again we might be very disappointed, even if the technology was fantastic, if the people are not free to live as they choose and pursue their own interests then it would be very sad, but to see a good world where people lived without any fear and with no worries, without tyranny and with a bright future.

A world where exploring their creativity and making life even better was a collective goal yet nobody is forced to comply with an agenda other than to respect each others rights and enable everyone to flourish, that would be such an amazing world to see especially in a high tech future.

I always enjoy seeing futuristic movies and thinking about how things might be and how they could be even better, but not without freedom even if/when freedom comes with risks, it's still the greatest hope for our future that we can live free.

I think that AI is going to have the greatest impact on society. I mean, it already is having a massive impact. It's all around us right now. It's starting to grow at an exponential rate. We are finally at the level of computing power where AI really can thrive and improve upon itself.

Yes, AI is a very big deal and prone to misuse and abuse, it is in use all around us, but it builds on what it's been told which means it's far from infallible, however as it learns it also has great potential.

Well, that is what sci fi is all about. I think my grandfather thought that scientific breakthroughs that improve things for mankind would be conducive to would peace.

I was serious. Why don't you try your hand at writing. Learn how to tap I to lucid dreaming as well as biofeedback brainwave training. The hypnogogic state is where you imagine such things.

In case anyone is interested, here's a quick video I did on the laser gun build I made.

Wow. What fun. I want one. I have to look at your build. The small fan for the heat sink must be effective. I wonder what kind of fixed lens would be good for it.

I just realized that it could be used as a kind man's weapon. Why is that you ask? Well, when you hold it against the target's abdomen and make a hole clear through to the back there will minimal bleeding because you cauterize all the vessels along the way. Kind of a self healing human hole punch!

Hehe thanks. I will admit, the heat sync is not enough to keep it cool much more than 30-40 seconds of straight run time. after that length of time I have to wait around 20-30 seconds for it to cool. Especially now since I increased the power after the video with Lipo batteries. I'm now running almost 300 watts into it!

A few questions. What driver and batteries are you using? You have a fan on the HS. What more could possibly be done to cool it off. As I recall, you are using a finned, processor HD.

Cause it's tiny. The original design I had a full size CPU heat sync(Which was more than adequate) , but because it was so huge on the gun, I went out and found a mini CPU heat sync.

For the driver, I'm using a $25, 600W voltage/current regulator from amazon. I thought it was a pretty clever find, but others on here warn that it's current might spike when turned on and other things, but I'm not super concerned as this is just a 'fun' project. I was using 8 Panasonic 18650s, but now I'm using 2, 14.8V lipo batteries, which have far higher amps, the pair only cost $25 as well.

Entire build including diode array ran me just over $410 Canadian, which is around $340 USD.

Crazy!!! ;-)
be sure to always stress safety with lasers. givem' links like LPS.com
Only after I read more and then met 'Spyrp' Drake in person did I change my mind..like many others here. SOMEBODY(ies) going to make these--some will be idiots and get hurt which hurts you and me too.( Some will be like Drake and allow others to enjoy w/o getting blinded. He gets a 'thumbs up' on safety.
(myb laser safety should be taught in preschool. )
LASERS ARE NEVER GOING AWAY.
only a united effort will do much good== kids will still be kids so... it is in the mouth or eye/face.

I have seen times when something 'essential' is left out intentionally --not perfect but nice try.

some will get arrested-
not much of a crime deterrent == more like bragging rights for some....put them in jail..72 hrs min/.

THANKS FOR SHARING --STAY SAFE.

HAK

to OP= I have not yet seen your video==doing that next==good luck

I agree. I think that for science class they should be taught that safety goggles that block laser light is also essential

Yes. Everyone knows how dangerous a gun is. But if I gave this laser gun to some devious 11 year old, it's likely he would start firing at everything, and possibly at people "pew pew pew!". On the other hand, give him a rifle, and he would probably(Hopefully) know better than to fire it in random directions or at people. This is because we were raised to know guns are very dangerous.

You'd be surprised. Youtube revenue is pretty poor. Roughly you get between $500-$1000 per 1 million views. You are basically a public figure by the time you are making a good living. Styro doesn't really post often enough to be making a 'fortune' off his videos. Things of course change if you do sponsored videos, but that's a different topic. With my job, I deal with a great deal of popular Youtubers, and my company has a Youtube channel with 70k subscriber's. However when you are using a channel to market(Like my company), that's where the real gold is if you get decent views. Advertisement you are paid for. <3

That is interesting. I was made aware of both broadband and YouTube long before they actually started...kind of a long story having to do with a radio show I did in the 90s....but, I never learned about YouTube or tried to make a channel

So, what you tell me is really interesting. I thought he was being supported because stuff he is doing... some stuff is not cheap

What kind of business do you have?
