you may know that to our eyes 7W does not 'look' much brighter than 5W.. to 'appear' twice as bright a you need 4X mW not just 2X-
so you need 20 W to see double 'brightness ' from 5W
and for twice as bright over 7 W takes 28W.
For your needs I suggest getting a JETLASERS lasers PL-E Pro 450 blue-- extremely well made- a for-real warranty,
and the duty cycle is fairly long-- big laser = long duty= big heat sink.
another good choice may found at Sanwu.

I go by the touch method on knowing when to rest.
I never run any of my JLs to the point that it feels very warm on the outside. as that means it is VERY WARM/HOT inside.

jetlasers.com

IF you do not,at this time, own best quality eye protection--FIRST--never after.. you can have JL include a pair when you buy.

also being so VERY dangerous you MUST keep the laser AWAY from adults w/ no knowledge and all youngsters.. without exception!!
store w/ batteries elsewhere. if you choose key lock --remove it when in storage..
it can pop a ballon in 1/2 second.. smokes wood almost instantly.. so any eye exposure could be VERY HAZARDOUS.
SAFETY IS AND WILL ALWAYS BR NUMBER ONE HERE!!

LAST
IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST ever laser-that may not be the best idea-
like if you have only owned a bycicle would you move up to a 140mph Ninja Crotch Rocket ?>

I am NOT trying to 'rain on your parade'
be smart-

Thanks for the headsup sir, the sanwu collection is cool but still too pricey for me. Im looking into jetlasers again now. Btw i owned a 2.2W (was the highest i could get back in the days) from DTR so id need around 7W to double the brightness right? 😋 or is that just from 5W up? Either way i always wanted the most possible. I couldnt have a 5W laser and be completely satisfied.. im stupid. I have safety glasses and noone else would get it in their hands. I have quite some experiences with it that makes me very cautious with this thing (nothing ever happened tho luckily)

Like 200$ at best, thats why im looking for a used one
I don't think anybody would be willing to sell an already built handheld unit for that cheap (if you're looking for an engraver, you should look into CO2 lasers as they are quite a bit cheaper), but you might be able to build one yourself for <$200 (not including batteries, charger, or shipping) using parts from an eBay seller who happens to also be part of LPF:
1. Lens and Housing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Laser-Diod...-12mm-x-30mm-SOLID-BACK-M9x0-5mm/323080830259
2. NUBM44 Diode: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-...ASER-DIODE-450nm-9mm-TO-5-7-WATT/322808972932
3. High Heat-Dissipation Host: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Han...Kit-12mm-Laser-Module-Compatible/323651600806
4. Buck Driver: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-20mm-B...V-6-Function-200mA-5000mA-NUBM44/324207130873

Are you more interested in burning power than brightness to the eye? Power for power, the beam brightness of 532 nm green is close to 7 times brighter to the eye than 450 nm blue.
Yea but it's still pretty expensive for a high powered one

There was a blue 7w made by a famous member on here. I bought it for $350 but it doesn't suit my needs. Due to his particular life circumstances, I won't ask him for a refund, but accounting for Paypal fees etc. it'd be the same as selling it for $300.
Would you be willing to pay $300 (+shipping, depending on where you are?)
Cheers!

ah... a 'biddng war'? J/K --IMO that is a good price.
good luck to all (3). one of you should look into a 5W. +/- a bit.
not a huge diff. in perceived brightness like: IIRC to double a 7 W you need 21W not 14W--make a WTB at BS&T --
take offers.. & some of them have better beam profile.
better divergance. etc. just be super careful.. not a toy!
