So, now that my Aluminux Laser has arrived and will not work as a tool for starting fires. What good is it? I have lasers mounted on my firearms but they were made for that purpose and were machined and outfitted to be mounted. When in the heck am I supposed to do with a laser that basically looks like a light saber? This one is too powerful to be used as a toy dot for my dog to chase around. Well, at least I have a couple of Laser Goggles on the way.

I had contacted TorchPro regarding the shipment and they did respond, but now that the unit has arrived, I have asked them for a refund because the unit does not perform as advertised. I don't actually care about the power, or the wavelength, I just wanted it as an easy way to start fires and add it to my ZA Emergency Kit. I suspect that once you receive the item, communications will cease. But let's see if they are at least honest enough to refund.

Hi, Ok like I said will LPM the laser for you if you like free, just pay shipping.
The battling lasers are hit and miss sometimes. 520nm diodes will burn if they are up there in mW's and then you will pay a price.
if you need to burn things I would go with a 445nm or a 450nm blue . you can get a decent build with an out put of close to 2W's .
Question what is your budget ? maybe I can get close and build you one.

Can vouch for Lifetime17 builds as being some very high quality hardware, he got me a really nicely machined copper heatsink and focus adapter with flashlight host for a very good price. All you have to do is drop the diode + driver in.

I sent over an email to that Chinese seller telling him that people are onto them, by the way. I don't expect a response, but hopefully the message hits home.

Guess what? It came today! Guess what else? It won't even get warm, no less burn anything!

Mine won't ignite gasoline that is 1 degree below the flash point. Boy did we get duped. It's not that I
Bleddyn, this 532nm you bought is probably doing anywhere from 60mW to 80mW+
Yes it's bright and green is what the human eye see's the best.
A 532nm laser is about 10 times as bright compared to a 445nm of the same power.
I'm curious what host your 532 is in?

actually expected the unit to have a 30 watt or even 3 watt output...didn't care...I just wanted it to be able to point at paper and ignite it.

Tomorrow I have an appointment at 1300 HRS with the laser safety guy here and he is going to measure the output for me. And then he is going to instruct me to take it home and never bring it to work again. Good think I have a good relationship with the safety folks here...they might have wanted to curb stomp me for bringing it into work. Unfortunately his power meter won't do wavelength and the Agilent Optical Multimeter won't do direct beam lasers, only fiber optic sources between 800 - 1550 nanometers...or thereabouts.

Hi Lifetime17, I wanted make sure I was not hijacking this thread. Was that comment directed at me or the OP? Both? Did someone clean up my earlier post? Looks way more organized than when I replied. Gotta love a good Moderator.

Here's the ad that duped us: https://torchexproc.com/pages/aluminux

Mine won't even warm a piece of black newspaper!

Mine is green - not blue and transmits no heat at all!

My Mastercard Co. is reimbursing me the $37.50, but I'm unsure if they're taking it back from the rip-off company or not.
I'm undecided what to do if the company wants me to resubmit my payment.

Can I say I never received it? Should I say I want to return it at their expense?

Hi, No hijacking here all is good , I have LPM'ed lasers for many folks to see what they really bought. So I can help you out to if you like.

Ok now I understand it.. You ordered the blue laser and got the green 532.
Bleddyn you also ordered the blue laser too?
The blue will burn and will be a bit over 1W, thats if you got one.

Even the lower power 532nm lasers can burn a bit when focused an inch or two from the aperture. That will allow you to focus the beam to a much smaller beam profile and higher power dense spot. But, to get a 532nm DPSS laser that actually burns at infinity focus takes much more power than these cheap lasers can possibly do. You will have to pay ~$400 for a 532nm pointer that will burn.

So, using a Calibrated and traceable to N.I.S.T Gentec EO Maestro laser power meter with a UP19K-30H-H5-D0 sensor head at a distance of 10 CM, I took three readings and got 48.2 53.6 and 54.6 mW of power. I am going to assume that because it was green it was probably in the range of 532 nm. So I think the Chinese company that sold this as a 30 W Blue laser are simply ripping us off. But I am still waiting for a response from the site that sold me this laser. Which by the way, is still a dangerous device because it still falls under the class of IIIb.....I think.

Lots of luck with that reply. I'll never do business there again. TOTAL ripoff

And the device has already broke. The coil wire that makes contact with the negative terminal of the battery broke off the main board. I will probably disassemble the device to see what makes it tick, but I have no use for a laser that does nothing but blind people. I will present my findings to the seller and ask for a refund. But I have already contacted them even before I broke out the measurement artillery.

Too bad you two wasted your $$ on junk--too bad you did not ask us first..

BTW please try to avoid posts in a row- instead , if yours is the last post just click 'edit' and add to it--

I would only buy from makers who have excellent reps here (like JETLASERS and Sanwu) or ones made by members or ones they are willing to sell-- only after that should you waste $$ on the likes of "Ali-baba'' etc. Buy from vets NOT newbies--

& buy a meter-- if you overcome the laser addiction you will have no probs selling a good LPM.

Hak,

I was reading the reviews over at Jetlasers. One guy mentioned import fees. Can you elaborate on that at all?

Thanks - Ponz

Unfortunately Len it's deals like this that bring newbies here for answers and comfort.
I also don't see how new members can find this forum easily, unless i'm missing something?
Oh I came ever so close to buying from laserpointerpro and other scammers, I just lucked out and never pulled the trigger.
So i'm right that 2 new member's bought to what they thought was a blue laser and got a green one?

Yes - and very weak green one!
