So I have a survival lasers c6 host and a fixed current driver. My question is can I put the driver into the pill WITHOUT a brass ring? Also, some components on the board are touching the the pill, is that supposed to happen?

Hi, The brass ring holds the drive off the bottom of the pill , The drive also needs to be soldered into the brass ring then the assembled unit needs to be pressed into the driver pill. You dont want any component on the driver to touch the host or driver pill or poof driver gone out the window. Plan B start over $$$$$$$..

Well that sucks. I was thinking to wrap some electrical tape around the driver and then just solder it to the top of the pill -as it would normally sit. If I want a new ring it's gonna cost me $17, and that's a bit ridiculous. The component that was touching the ring is a diode, but I think it's supposed to be.

I did recieve a new brass ring, along with two driver pills for free just today...
But I, ashamed to admit it, kinda broke it...
I am very clumsy and, uh, unskilled.

Oh ok..No shame in breaking things as it's all part of learning.. and the skill will come in time.
Now just how did you break or damage it? Show a pic and maby some members can walk you through a way of fixing it..

I tried putting it into a pill to see if it will fit, but then I couldn't get it out anymore, so I tried pulling it with pliers and squashed it...
But it doesn't matter, I put some wire where the ring goes as seen here:15748866273346219534431157159434.jpg

Which holds the driver where it should be and isolates it.

Also, later in the post I referred to a diode touching the brass ring/ground, this is the diode:15748867425076308606003047139310.jpg
Is that supposed to be connected to ground? As you might be able to see I thought the diode and ring were shorted so I tried to seperate them, slightly damaging the diode in the process, I hope that's not a problem since I measured the diode and it seems to be ok.

If you are asking if D1's anode should be ground....it appears so. If you are asking if the inductor should be ground.....NO!
