How to give a price to a private build

When you experienced LPF builders,
Do you make a laser pointer for a friend / customer / on request / etc ... based on what you set a price or the final price for? I'm noticing many posts where there's stuff for sale, but there's always a rise and a fall in the price to ask for in the end! why ?
If I make a build, the price I ask is what I publish in the first place ... it is not an auction where you play to those who offer more

There are many factors that decide what an item sells for. And it's not always what you think it's worth.

Supply and Demand. To many available and the price will drop. Not many available the price will rise.

Competition. If there are many suppliers of the same item the price will drop.

Quality. Better quality will lead to higher selling price.

The seller hopes to get a certain amount but can't sit on a bunch of builds that he invested his money on.
Lifetime17 and Thang thung prices are bottom line cheap as it can get anyways, Lifetime17 is lucky if he makes a couple dollars, he does it for the love and forum needs..

Does Lifetime17 earn a pittance on its builds?
It does not seem right or right, love for the forum yes .. but up to a certain point, if he works on the lathe for hours and hours, and in the end he doesn't even put in his pocket the money to pay for the raw material or the electricity to turn the lathe ... then I would see again a little what, but Than Thung earns more than Lifetime17?
We could open a debate about this thing! it is better that I do not pronounce myself with sentences that could still be "immature"
But I have an idea!

I have often built lasers or modules and not factored in anything but my costs into the price. I often offer my services for cost alone, making nothing on the transaction. To me it is a service I am glad to provide. It is my way of giving back a little for all I have received.

I was curious, how much would you charge for a DVD burner laser pointer? Like a 150-100mw one.

Probably cost of parts + work. Pretty much comon sense. But I smell multiaccount, anyone else?

I would build something myself, but my soldering skills aren't the best. I am guessing 50-70$, I already have a 1w 450nm laser, but am trying to add a high power red laser. I don't want a 303 either because that host has inherited quality control issues.

I somehow didn't see your message was aimed to Paul. And building your own laser isn't that hard. And soldering can be learned too. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Yeah, i have been soldering since I was 7, still bad lol. I have Been using and buying lasers since I was 8, which was 5 years ago so I am not new to lasers. Had my first 500mw at 11, so I am experienced when it comes to handling lasers. Just bad at building. Only solder to repair broken connections, etc. Might go look at a sawnu red guardian.
