They can find someone else and I will bet they/he ( your prospective employer ) has found others to fill the position, but I will also bet that nobody with the needed experience has been willing to relocate there for what he is willing to pay.......think about it, if he was offering a million dollars a year there would be plenty of qualified people speaking up for the job. You may be working as a technician now but you are being asked to do the work of an engineer and I believe you said that was the title.

Looks like he's offering 2/3 what the job is worth.

You are being offered closer to entry level pay.

Yes, that's the problem, I believe they have been working on filling this position for over a year now, and that is why. They want someone qualified at that level, but I wouldn't be a principal engineer on this job, not really, just an RF engineer. The problem with me is I'm already earning too much now and balking at the living expenses in SD.

Yea I know, but realistically where will you be in 5 years if you took that job vs. doing what you are now ?
I don't think your wrong to balk at the money, something ( your work ) is worth what someone will pay and you are being paid more, so you are in fact worth more than what he is offering.
