But I can get a 4W (they don't have 5) from this jetlaser place with no issue?
They have 1.6, 2, 3 & 4W in 445nm. The host is called PLE-Pro as Encap said. https://www.jetlasers.org/index.php?id_product=14&controller=product

Burning isn't all about raw power either though - Burning effectively requires high power density. i.e. To burn effortlessly, you want a small sharp dot - High-power multi-mode diodes (all of the multi-watt blue ones are) have generally got poorer divergence and the dot appears as a stripe or rectangle.

You can get a 1.5w 405nm diode that can be focused much tighter and although the optical output power might be lower, you may find it burns far better than a 2W or 3W 445nm due to the much better beam specifications. Won't be as visible though as eye sensitivity to 405nm is far lower than 445nm.

If you're new to lasers, choose a 2w450nm laser, and it has good divergence. If you choose a higher power laser, you will be disappointed with its divergence,
I'm not sure there are still new NDB7875 diodes to ensure output of 3.5w, but anyway go with the first 2w, they will be cheaper and also powerful

Ok sorry to keep bugging everyone with these stupid questions but I just wanna make sure I know a little bit before I go spending a couple hundred dollars. So with the 445nm, is it very blue or is it kind of violet? Cuz everything says blue but then I see pics that look completely purple. And I definitely wanna be able to see the beam clear as day and also burn things. So I guess if I get this 4W PL-E Pro with the beam expander then I should be good to do both right? And this laser is the one everyone is suggesting I guess

445nm is a I'd call it Azure color, the ones that are purple are 405nm to 420. If you're looking for burning like someone else said 405nm is more power dense than 445nm, a 1.5W diode Immo suggested can be found here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Power...h=item3b2274ce09:g:ZvcAAOSwxPNb7Ict:rk:1:pf:0 I have purchased one of these and the seller is good. But, to answer you second part of your question, clear as day isn't really possible with glasses on, the spot does look nice with the ones I listed to you but the beam is another story, and 445nm at that wattage will burn, so I guess it does that part of your criteria BUT like Immo said lower wattage 405nm like a 1w can burn better than a 2w 445nm, wattage isn't everything for burning. I had this question too when I started out and this was a good resource Someone on there has a pretty good explanation for why 405nm is better for burning so to keep this concise check that out.

Jetlasers will do a special make up PL-E Pro 5W for you if you ask them to, email Gray at Jetlasers and ask if that is what you want.
JetLasers 10X beam expander will make the beam wider with lower divergence over distance---will be wider by the power of the beam expander. Example if the beam is 3mm and you put a 10X beam expander on it the beam will be 30mm wide.
Additionally a 405nm dot is only 10% as bright visually as 445nm

A Watt is a Watt is a Watt regardless of wavelength. Power is simply a measure of energy per unit time. So 1W of laser light emitted for 1 second is equal to 1 joule of energy. P=ET, E=P/T.

The wavelength of a photon is proportional to the energy of the photon (And vice versa of course). The greater the energy, the larger the frequency and the shorter (smaller) the wavelength.
Say you have a 1W 405nm laser and a 1W 445nm laser - they'll both produce 1 Joule of light energy over 1 second, however, because 405nm photons each have more energy than 445nm photons there will be less photons emitted at 405nm in that 1 second interval to reach 1 Joule of energy output. A 1W 405nm laser will be putting out less photons than a 1W 445nm (Shorter wavelength, higher energy) even though the output power is equal. Important for burning a 405nm can be focused to a smaller spot than anything of a longer wavelength delivering higher energy density per unit area .

The above being said, a laser beam has no temperature - there is no inherent "temperature" to a laser beam. Heat is the random motion of matter particles (atomic or molecular particles).
A laser beam itself is not made of matter but of photons, which have no mass, thus a laser beam can have no temperature.
"Heat" is caused by a laser beams energy being absorbed by a materials surface and turning light energy into heat energy--depends upon the ability of the target material to absorb and convert the light energy to heat.

What you are seeing is the way a camera interprets the color of the laser. I have a 574nm pure yellow laser, but it turns out green on any camera I use. I have built many 445nm and 450nm builds and still have several in my collection. They all look blue to me and to everyone who has ever looked at them with me. You have to get lower in wavelength before the light starts to look violet.

Yep, it's impossible to trust a camera since different models of camera interpret colours differently, and it's an approximation - since your camera can't really capture monochromatic light that accurately. 445 looks very much blue.

I reiterate Trinh's statement about getting a 2W because of the beam quality and divergence - if you have the cash to drop on a beam expander for when you're not burning then fine, go higher - but I'd agree that a 2W 445nm is a decent compromise. The more power you get the worse the dot looks like. My Sanwu 1W is great but if I look at the dot closeup with good safety goggles (or in the lower power mode on it) then the dot looks like two parallel lines multiple mm long instead of a round spot.

Ok so maybe I'll go with the 2W PL E Pro from jetlaser then and hopefully it has a clearer dot. Cuz that line does kind of annoy me. I just wanna be able to burn, see the beam very clearly and preferably have more of a dot. And I used to have a green laser which got stolen so I really wanna get another one of those. I'm just not sure how much power I really need from that one because I remember hearing that green looks the brightest to our eyes. And mine was only like 100mw but could burn and you could see the beam easily

The 532nm DPSS laser pointers have come way down in price over the past several years. You can pick up a 50 mW to 90 mW #303 laser on eBay for ~$5.00. If you want their crummy battery and their crummy charger with the "star caps", they can cost you ~$10.00. Just remember that the 18650 battery goes in negative side first as the pump diode is case positive.

ahh but there is an issue.

does anyone smell something burning???

.. the blind leading the blind'

neither know enough to not double post at LPF.

hope he does not take a laser to school.
the OP can ignore my reply to his PM.
how many times must he tell us he is BIG on burnin' stuff.???
If I were the
'SOUP NAZI'.. ( Seinfield)..of laser geeks .
.. I would say 'NO LASER FOR YOU'!

myb i can delete that PM before he sees it.

You're a funny dude. I'm 26 yrs old so and looking to spend about $300-400 on a laser so I'm definitely not gonna be bringing it to school. Those days are over. And no I'm not the laser police like you asked in the PM 😂. I didn't even know you couldn't buy one from the US before I started reading about them a little more. I pretty much just joined the forum to gain some knowledge on them and where to purchase one before I spent a bunch of money and got ripped off by some scamming company. I'm an EMT not a laser engineer so pardon me for my lack of knowledge on the subject lol.

Wait you said you used to have a green laser that got stolen which "was like 100mw" So how didn't you know you could get them from the US?

FIRST
thank you for your service as EMT.
and what Nae K asked? -- where did you get your 100mW that got stolen?
I hope you will take my suggestion and make a nice 'intro' (both of you the new guy and the newer guy).

WE(in this new forum) no longer see our locations below our usernames every time we post.
You may not understand why but that is important.. not mandatory --AND also just good old common manners.
I would never insult an EMT by thinking I could learn all you know in a short time.. right?
Shortcuts and building 'errors' are common causes of failed lasers with new members..

If you get disappointing search results.. try different search terms...

Best seller for you is a member here and you can work out the details via PM. < (better to do all that off open forum.)
You can get a kit that is fool-proof .. and since it is not a compete working laser it falls in a 'grey area' between legal and not.

I have no idea...I got it like 10yrs ago, hardly had to do any research at all to find it and I got it from dino direct. I tried to look on there for another one but I guess they don't sell them anymore. And it's not some mysterious event that it was stolen because I know my brother is the one who took it lol
