It's back. In full power mode-gorgeous bright grass green! And yes- single 700 mm Long Protected "18650" Nitecore 3500 mAH battery changed to 4.2 Volts on my trusty Nitecore charger.

I took a deep breath and wanted to switch to low power mode and half power- After many trials I got it to switch modes- but only to SOS-where it was stuck. Then after several half press sequences it went DARK.
until I swapped the tail-Cap power button from my other Challenger 2. Then it was briefly stuck in STROBE. After more fumbling I got it to what is either half or full power.

So it looks like my tail cap switch may need replacing.
" Multi-operation mode (no safety lock)
Performs these sequences within the first three seconds after the laser is on to enter different operation modes:

Three half presses: Low power mode
Four half presses: Half power mode
Five half presses: Strobe mode
Six half presses: Full power mode
Seven half presses: SOS mode

The laser memorizes the operation mode that being used for more than five seconds so you don't have to enter the exact combination to switch to a specific operation mode in later use. "

Try unscrew halfway the original switch, your 18650 battery could be oversized.

Also the sequence you listed there is for the challenger laser, not for the challenger II, you should able to switch mode by doing one half-tap at a time.

Thanks Podo,
That works! How many sizes of 18650 Protected batteries ARE there?

I don't think anyone knows the answer to that question. I have at least 10 different sizes of 18650 batteries myself. I would find out what the length of the one you need is and try to buy that one. I use www.liionwholesale.com to buy my batteries. They have the best prices and only sell brand new OEM batteries. If you can't find the size, you can message them to find out which will fulfill your needs.

Thanks Paul! That is just crazy. It might save Podo some calls if they mention that. Yikes! IT works now that I partly unscrew the tail cap.

On another note- I don't recall seeing the multi-segment artifact with the first module. Is that normal? I had requested G7 lens.
When I swap the lens section from my 488 nm (492) the segment artifact is not as noticeable-but the lens section from the 520 on the 488 will only partly focus the beam from the 488- it remains a large rectangle.

There are only two lenses I have found that eliminates the rectangular artifact. The acrylic lens that comes with any module you might buy or the 2 element 520nm AR coated lens from DTR. You will see it with any other lens you might think to use including Sanwu's G7 or G2.

I’m glad to here peaple finally agreeing with me that the 2 element AR coated for 520 lens does a great job at eliminating artifacts with diodes from 470 all the way up to 525, As you know I’ve been saying it for over a year, in many threads, I suppose peaple were just” not willing to try out another lens, although
There were a few agreeing with me!

I don't know about " eliminating " artifacts, the 2E may reveal less artifacts, but I can't say it eliminates all artifacts, certainly not on all diodes or in all cases. :)

Thanks Paul, Badboybilly and Redcowboy
I might have to give it a try.
