Yes, I am aware how this mirror works. Was making sure that you did too. What I was concerned about, is if you got the alignment off in the right/left or top/bottom direction. That would add an additional element of complexity to your overall alignment of the optical bench.

Yes, an adjustment of the collimating mirror increases the complexity, but in principle it was already available before the mod and is also described in the different alignment instructions, such as in science-surplus (see attachment). I have only created the possibility of the adjustment with closed housing from the outside, and then a little more precise and sensitive. As already said, the entire mod is only intended to visualize the effects and not primarily for use in general.

In this week here is the next... the grating ...,
the round socket of it sits in a fit in the housing and can be precise positional rotated then clamped with the two existing screws, the housing-side clamping disturbs the possibility of an adjustment solution.
That's why, unlike the first planned project, i have decided on the simplest possible solution.
Based on the basic setting of the angle of the gratings, I have simply cut in this angle two M2 thread in the housing.
With the two additional screws, the grating can now be adjusted from the outside with the housing covered.
Of course you would have to tighten all adjustment options with all internal clamping screws after completion, but I can save me, in this case there is no need to do this, because actually a permanent use of the unit is not intended
..... but it will certainly show......

I am very interested in seeing how all these changes you've made to this optical bench works out. Are you getting close to where you are going to start with the alignment?

You have used all the same optics that came with these spectrometers, right? I am interested in seeing how the alignment goes if you change the angle on the grating. Specifically, if you get an astigmatism and how easily you are able to deal with that. When I get back into mine, this is what I will be trying next, so seeing how it worked out for you will give me some insight.

Yes, all the optical parts are from these devices. We will see, how it works ....

Last but not least, before the adjustments I wanted to show a few pictures of the whole assembly with all modified components.

Wow, that is a lot of modifications you have done to this bench. If you still have problems with light leaks, I have found that a heavy cotton towel to cover the spectrometer works pretty well. It obviously needs to be a dark color and you should have the room lights low as well.

Regarding the alignment, I have developed a compensation optics to replace the LPF. It should solve the focus shift issue (pretty much to a level tolerable within a few dozen microns). Kindly let me know if anyone is interested in since I got plenty these optics made.

Crazy dollars for that. Try a piece of pipe. The idea is just to block stray light and the source only needs to be in for a few seconds. I use tinfoil.

Has anyone run into a problem with coms....after their device was working?

Mine was running great, then yesterday i powered it up but couldn´t manage to get my computer to recognise the spectrometer. I´ve attached a few pictures of the message displayed, hopefully someone might have an answer or idea

This problem just started, and ive tried re-downloading the Science-surplus software and Mosc LPF software, also tried the spectrometer on another computer, but still the same error `Unhandled Exception has occured´

Maybe an issue with the spectrometer bios etc??

Hi jnrpop, could you please post the startsequence of the device by using a serial-command tool , i would be interested in the selftest passing code at the end.
I have sent you such a tool, it is on the stick ....
