I found a nice, large glass 'wedge' (triangular prism) at TJMaxx that was just BEGGING me to shoot beams through it :) It's approx 7" on its long side.

So I did.

Quite interesting results how different the beams look inside - especially the 405nm. You can really tell after I added some fog. I have a mirror under the whole thing, and some shots I left it just like that, others I put a beam-stop behind it OR another mirror.

I used some labbies on this one:
532nm
650nm
473nm
405nm
445nm

and a few have a 490nm (pointer, as I preferred it's beam over the labby).

Enjoy!!!

How neat is the pattern on this lateral face!?!

In image 4130 what’s the beam that looks like yellow? Is it a 575?

Nice pictures :kewlpics:

Thank ya! I had to go back and look at the original pics to make sure my 'timeline' was accurate in my head (sometimes when uploading to Flickr I don't do them all chronologically) - if you look closely its coming from the beam that's angled "downward" and you can see few speckles of 490nm! It's wild - in some other shots the 445nm and the 405nm look yellowish as well - but in particular the 490nm surprised me!

Here's one with 490/405 in it - where you can see clearly before/after density change:

Hey Lew,
Very nice pics. I like the ones with the background lit up in red, nice contrast. A 405nm going though glass is such a cool effect!

Thanks Bruce!

Hi Lew,
Thats some great work you done here looks awesome. Keep it up buddy.

Rich:)

Appreciate it, Rich!

Fascinating beamwork!! Nice find. I’d rep yA if I could:)

Cool effect. :D +rep

Thanks, friend!

New optics are always fun and this new prism is no exception. It actually looks larger than it is in your photos. I have found the way cameras reproduce laser colors is often not accurate and this is especially true of digital cameras. The true yellow 574nm that I have looks more like a 532nm than anything else. Great photos. Thanks for sharing them here.

Lew, that is some delightful work using the prism, it's amazing how the wavelength changes as it enters the prism, and it definitely does add to the photo quality by producing some unique colors! :yh:

So it was actually a Home Goods / TJMaxx combo store...technically on the Home Good side. This is my wife's wonderland, I prefer Fry's :D

I have both near me, but never heard of a combo store.

CONGRATULATIONS LewDude for joining the 8+ million rep club.

I would normally do this in the vet's section, but you would never see it there. :D

I just used "combo-store" as it is under 1 roof, one half devoted to each store, but they share a massive check-out counter/registers...turns out - they call it "combo-store" on their site!

Never was a poor choice of words. By the time you were able to see it, it wouldn't matter any longer. There. :D
