Lets start with an obvious question. What Color is 565nm ?

Next. The One that everyone wants to know. The Wavelength.

An Expanded view of the Spectrum. This DPSS laser has quite a wide bandwidth. Ranging from 565nm up to 571nm. That is quite wide for a DPSS laser. It's obviously not 561nm.

I measured the output power with 2 LPM's. I suspect the Sanwa PL1 is the more accurate one at Low Power Levels.

The Sanwa PL1 reads 30 mW and the Pocket Laser Power Meter from the Laser Pointer Store reads 25 mW.

The Output seems quite stable. Variation was a few mW over a few minutes.


I measured the Voltage and Current in the Pump Diode. It's 1.6 Volts at 1100 mA. It's pumping at 1.76 Watts.



Some Images of the Laser head. Sorry about the soft Focus. It's a typical Chinese Heatsink with the module buried deep inside. Looking into the output end I can see the Collimation lens has an AR coating on it. A Blue tint.

An Image of the driver. Again it's a standard Chinese driver as found in most Laser Light Show Units.

Dam this is a hard laser to try and get decent beam shots. 25-30 mW is not very bright.

NOTE: I used a Cannon camera and the Color is Wrong on the beam. I also tried with my Mobile phone and the color was even more green. Try and imagine these Beam Shots but in the Color from the top of this post. It seems a CMOS sensor is not capable of detecting 565 nm. The Camera is making it much greener. The Color of the beam truly is very close to the first image I posted about the color of 565 nm.

Anyway, Here is my first effort at capturing this Lasers Beam. The second image is a 4 second exposure.

I will try and do some outdoor shots on Sat Night. I should be up at the Astronomy club for our viewing night. There is probably nothing I can do make the color accurate. It's just the way the camera works. 565nm is a narrow area of the spectrum were color changes quickly.

Where you did get it from? Nice color, it’s like in the edge of green/yellow. Looking forward for your review! New color for laser hobbyists?

There is a Hobbyist/Commercial laser Guru in Australia that sells on Ebay. He sometimes has rare and unusual items.

His Ebay usename is "laserlandaustralia2016"


He only had 2. I bought one and another member in the US bought the other. The Seller said it's unlikely he will get more.

We had doubts about this color but took the plunge and ordered them. I have not put it on my Spectro yet but it's certainly looking like it is 565nm. His rating was 20-30mW. But I suspect it might be higher.

Lucky you. Nice find Mosc. Good luck with testing. I’m still eyeballing this Jenoptik 6w 532nm laser on eBay , I WANT IT GIMME!

So it's actually greenish yellow? I bought the other one and I'm unable to test it until tomorrow

Greenish Yellow pretty much sums it up. It does look very close to the Image of what 565nm looks like.

On my Phone it doesn't detect 565nm. It comes out Green like 532nm.

I have a Canon Camera at home. Hopefully it can detect 565nm. This laser is definatly nothing like 532nm.

Chartreuse yellow is the correct name of this color. True yellow is at or very near 577 nm

I am home from work and will start collecting data.

565nm is a valid DPSS wavelength. More accurately, 564.5nm created using a new crystal. ND:SFAP with an input wavelength of 1129nm.

I’m wondering if it’s really 565nm or just a mislabeled 561nm. From a quick google search, it doesn’t seem that any company produces 565nm.


So the spectrometer readings taken by Mosco just happen to also show 565nm? :thinking: :rolleyes:

Nice post Mosco, keep ups updated! Regret not being able to afford one of these when I found them! :(

It is interesting that you have found 565nm diodes Nexgen, because looking at those spectros it made me question whether or not it was in fact a diode. DPSS's don't look like that. It is far too broad of a spectrum.
I'm saving that link big time. Now is there 575nm diodes as that is what laserlands is apparently getting next? I think the dream is coming true. Yellow laser diodes are becoming a thing. :)

Edit: It appears we have 565nm diodes everyone. And that this module is in fact not DPSS.

Edit 2: These are SFD DPSS's and are slightly tuneable hence the broader linewidth present.

Mosc, this laser seems to be new efficient way to produce 565nm. Hope to see this in handheld someday, and I think it’s likely possible because I see PCB is small for 300-1000mw IR diode, IMO


Edit: I see a piece of manufacture date sticker on PCB’s pot, can you tell manufacture date?

The date on the Current Setting Pot is also 04/18 same as the Laser head.

There is a fair amount of current being pushed into the Pump Diode. The Switching Transistor is getting quite warm.

I just measured the current into the Pump Diode. It's being driven with 1100 mA. If its a typical IR diode that suggests it could be pumping at 2.5 Watts.

The Image of the Laser and Driver do look similar, But not the same. The add looks very suspect. The information in the description etc does not match the product.

My Original thought was it's not DPSS looking at the beam profile. But when reading the Pump Current at 1100 mA now it does look like a Pump Diode.

If it was just a Diode at 565nm it would not have 1100 mA just to produce 25-30 mW of output.

Maybe this relatively new ND:SFAP Crystal is not refined yet. Assuming that's what it is.
